3. Course Goals and Objectives:
Symbolic reasoning and calculations with symbols are central in algebra. Through the
study of algebra, a student will develop an understanding of the symbolic language of
mathematics and the sciences. In addition, algebraic skills and concepts are developed
and used in a wide variety of problem-solving situations.
4. Course Description:
4.1 General Overview: Algebra 1 students will incorporate fundamental math with
abstract ideas (letters in place of numbers), use of patterns, generalizations, solving
linear and quadratic equations, graphing, simplifying radicals, and solving word
problems. This course is a prerequisite for Plane Geometry in Tenth Grade.

5.1 Frequency of Tests: Tests and quizzes are given frequently throughout each quarter

on tests, quizzes, homework, and other projects.
