BIOINFORMATICS Check the SoCalBSI webpage for internship sites for our summer program. http://instructional1.calstatela.edu/jmomand2/ Look under SoCalBSI programs in the right column on the homepage. Click on a year and from the page you reach, click on the “Mentors” tab in the gold stripe under the picture of the university Student Union. These sites are labs that use bioinformatics to answer molecular questions. Several of them are nucleic acid-related. FORENSICS There are DNA labs in the LA Police Department, as well as the LA, San Bernardino, and Orange County Steriff's Departments. Contact information for forensic labs can be found at the website for the California Association of Criminalistics. The homepage URL is http://www.cacnews.org/ and from that page, under “Contact,” there is a directory link. You will need to determine whether or not there is a DNA lab, and may need to request additional contact information from the first number you call. In addition to DNA, other common terms that may get you to a DNA lab are Forensic Biology, or the term "biology".
