2016 Spring Nara Institute of Science and Technology Graduate School of Information Science and the University of Oulu Department of Information Processing Science Double Degree Doctoral Program―Information and Application Guide for the Acceptance and Dispatchment of Students -1- I. Outline and information concerning the Double Degree Program Nara Institute of Science and Technology Graduate School of Information Science (hereinafter referred to as “our graduate school”) and University of Oulu Department of Information Processing Science (hereinafter referred to as University of Oulu) have established the Double Degree Program for the purpose of cultivating doctoral students into researchers that will contribute to future research and development and highly specialized technicians. Students will be trained to become valuable human resources with an international perspective in order to contribute to international academic exchange. 1. Outline Doctoral students will either be sent from the University of Oulu to our graduate school or from our graduate school to Oulu University and will maintain their status as a student in their original graduate program while entering in to the program of the accepting university. Upon the completion of the program, the student will be issued separate doctoral degrees from both universities. The residency requirements for the two universities are four years for Oulu and three years for our graduate school; within either of these terms students are required to spend at least one year at the accepting university 2.Number of Students for Acceptance and Dispatchment Acceptance:Limited Dispatchment:Limited 3.Qualifications for Application and Entrance Examination (1) Acceptance of Students to our Graduate School ① Qualifications for Applying Applicants must fulfill one of the Following Conditions: (1) a Master’s student of Oulu University who are accepted into the doctoral program and will have received this degree before entering the doctoral program (2) an Oulu University doctoral student ② Additional Information (1) The selection of applicants is, as a rule, based on the examination of written materials. However, an oral examination may be held if deemed necessary. (2) Entrance to the program is the spring semester of 2016 (2) Dispatchment from our Graduate School ①Qualifications for Applying Applicant must fulfill the Following Conditions: (1) Applicants must be one of the Following: (a) a master’s student of our graduate school who is accepted into the doctoral program and will have received this degree before entering Oulu University (b) a doctoral student of our graduate school. (2) Have the necessary language ability to participate in class and carry out research ②Additional Information (1) Student selection for the program will be based on the reviewing of application materials and interview results at each school (2) Entrance into Oulu University is from the spring semester of 2016 4.Additional Information (1) Students enrolled in the program will be treated as mutual students of each university and the screening, entrance and tuition fees are to be waived. (2) Any fees incurred through transportation and accommodations are to be paid by the student. Before submitting your application, make sure to check that all the necessary documents are enclosed or attached. Screening Method Applicants are evaluated according to a screening of application documents. However, an oral examination may be conducted in addition if necessary. In that case, students will be notified separately of the date and place of the oral examination. 5. Examination Results and Enrollment Procedures Spring semester of 2016 Results announced January 15(Fri), 2016 Enrollment procedure Late March, 2016 The examination results will be announced on the NAIST website (http://www.naist.jp/en) from 10:00 am (scheduled) on the dates specified above.
