NSMH National Chapter Awards All chapters must apply for the awards in a timely manner by sending the applications by mail to the NSMH National Headquarters, postmarked by the due date of November 30 . All awards are judged by the National Advisory Board. Note: Chapters applying for the Best Scrapbook Award and/or the Best Chapter Exhibit Award must submit and set up their entries on the first day of the annual National Conference. Please contact the National Programs Director at programs@nsmh.org for further information. Chapter Award Requirements Only chartered and active chapters are eligible to apply for the national awards annually. Information, photos, and supporting/supplementary information provided (as required for some award applications) must cover ONLY activities that occurred in the award period being judged, which is January 1 to December 1st of the current administrative year. Timely submission of chapter program report forms to the National Headquarters throughout the year will also be considered. Please submit a bullet-point summary for each award for which your chapter is applying, indicating why your chapter deserves that particular award. Include a copy of any supplementary information (flyers, letters, memos, newsletters, programs booklets, etc.) that provides evidence to your application. Please note that an award applied for unopposed, does not guarantee the chapter the award. The award winners are announced at the annual National Conference. Chapter Awards Chapter President of the Year Candidates for this award are nominated by the chapters and chosen by the National Advisory Board. Expectations include dedication, patience, initiative, and the ability to motivate and communicate effectively with the members. Chapter of the Year The chapter that has participated in a variety of activities, communicated effectively with the National Board, accomplished chapter goals as outlined by the Chapter Planning Manual, increased membership, and completed community service. Participation in NSMH regional and national events and programs is also important. New Chapter of the Year The chapter that has been NSMH-chartered for one year or less, and shows the most interest in the organization, is willing to learn and implement NSMH's Bylaws, is involved in NSMH regional and national events and programs, and communicates effectively with the National Board. Best Activities Award This award will go to the chapter that participates and organizes activities that highlight both the essence of NSMH, as well as the hospitality industry. These can include entertainment, community service, and/or fundraisers that promote NSMH and the chapter itself. Best Chapter Exhibit Award The Exhibit should display/focus on the theme for the current year's National Conference, and should fit a 3-foot table space and the surrounding area. (A table will be provided at the National Conference for each chapter exhibit entered) The display should include evidence of all fulfilled expectations of the chapter and at least one event or meeting that promotes/highlights the tourism specific to the chapter's town or area. It should include chapter forms, newsletters, programs, minutes, flyers, etc. BE CREATIVE AND COLORFUL. This award can be combined with the Scrapbook competition Best Chapter Membership Drive The chapter that recruits and retains the most members, and actively participates in activities on the chapter, regional, and national levels. All members must be in good financial standing with NSMH. Best Chapter Newsletter The chapter with the most informative and innovative newsletter that is circulated effectively and periodically within the chapter and to the NSMH INFORMER. A copy of each edition of the newsletter must be sent to the NSMH National Headquarters. (Please label Attention: Public Relations Director) Highest GPA Award You can receive this award in two ways. Chapters can take an average (mean) of the grade point averages of all of their members to compete for the Chapter GPA Award. Also, the person with the highest GPA from each chapter can submit his/her individual cumulative GPA for the individual Highest GPA Award. Most Professional Chapter First introduced in 2003, the Professionalism Award is given to the chapter that displays the most outstanding professionalism as a group in terms of conduct, dress and grooming, networking skills, conference and dining etiquette, etc. Chapters are judged and voted on throughout the weekend of the National Conference. Best Publicity Award The chapter that has promoted NSMH most diligently throughout the year. This includes advertisements, campus promotions, submissions to the NSMH INFORMER and school newspapers, and local press coverage. Best Scrapbook Award The Best Scrapbook Award is awarded to the chapter whose scrapbook best illustrates the activities and accomplishments of the chapter for the year. Founders Award This award is given to the Advisor who has shown outstanding commitment to NSMH members, his/her chapter, and the National Board. Most Traveled Chapter Award The chapter that visited the most places to learn more about the hospitality industry. This can include field trips and activities more than two hours from your chapter's city, as well as travel to NSMH regional and national events. All activities must be documented and verified by the Advisor, stating the dates, destinations, and the number of members that attended each activity or event The Clyde Robinson Community Service Award This award will be given to the chapter that gives the most back to the community and the hospitality industry. Criteria: Number of community service projects that the chapter participated in Percentage of chapter involvement in the community service project(s) Relation of the community service project(s) to the hospitality industry Did the chapter submit a chapter program report form to the Programs Director to report participating in the event? Did the chapter submit photos from the community service project?.
