Understand the link between these activities and applications and selection processes. Preparation and Material Copies of Info Sheet and Activity Sheet “Extra Curricular Activities” for each student (can be photocopied back to back). Students’ Action Plans. Blackboard/flipchart. Flipchart paper (or similar) and pens. Blu-Tack. This lesson has optional links to lesson plan “My Resume”. Method 1. Put students into groups of 3 to 4, appoint a scribe and give each group a piece of flipchart paper and pen. 2. Explain the aims of the lesson using the learning outcomes on the Info Sheet. 3. Explain the meaning of extra curricular activities – ask for examples and list them on the blackboard/flipchart. 4. Give out the Info and Activity Sheets and discuss the examples on the Info Sheet and others. 5. Ask the students individually to list their own extra curricular activities on the Activity Sheet and then to share their list with their group. 6. Students discuss which qualities/key skills/other skills are developed through their activities and record these on spider diagrams on their sheet of paper. 7. Display the spider diagrams and discuss with the whole class. 8. Discuss the reasons why the development of skills and qualities through extra curricular activities is important for its own sake and/or for the individual’s employability potential. 9. Remind students to enter their extra curricular activities on their resumes if they have one. 10. Ask the students what they have learned from the lesson. 11. Summarise the main learning outcomes. Extension Activity It may be appropriate for students to review and update Section 2 of their Action Plans relating to the skills and qualities. Learning Outcomes: By completing this task you will be able to: Identify your participation in extra curricular activities. Understand the link between these activities and applications and selection processes. INFO SHEET – Extra Curricular Activities Using the Activity Sheet list all of the extra curricular activities that you are involved in. In you group, consider which skills/key skills/other skills and qualities are developed through these activities. In your group, write these ideas on the large sheet of paper using a spider diagram for each activity.
