Ms. King’s Book Report Requirements
This school year you will be required to do book reports. You will be completing 3
book reports and 3 book shares. You will be selecting 3 books that you would like to read
this year from a fourth grade or higher reading list. Your 3 books should be from three
different genres. Once you complete a book you will write a report on that book. Your
book report must include the following:
Title of Book
Author
Illustrator
Genre
Setting
Main Characters with a written description of each
Summary-What the story is about
Story Ending-How did the story end? (Conclusion)
Book Review-Did you like the book? Why or Why not? Would you
recommend it to your peers?
My goal with these book reports is to help you learn to evaluate books and to share
common reading experiences with your peers. This is an expectation for my fourth grade
class.
Once you have completed your book reports you will then do a book share. To begin,
choose a project from the list provided that you will present to the class. This project will
represent the book you have read. You will then present your project to the class orally
on the day it is due. Be creative and have fun with these projects.
YOUR BOOK REPORTS AND BOOK SHARE
ARE DUE ON NOVEMBER 25, 2008.

Each book talk must be from a different genre.
Book talks can be done in the following ways:
• Power Point Presentation
• Poster
• Diorama
Students must choose a different presentation method each time.
Each presentation will have specific details depending on the presentation
method used. (see handouts)
Here are some ideas for book report
projects
Auto/biography--students become the person they read about (with costume
and props) and present their lives (I’ve heard of teachers who have a wax
museum--students stand there in costume--visitors are invited, and when they
press some button, the kids recites his/her info.)
2. Non-fiction--students demonstrate (with a large prop--poster, replica...) to the
class what they learned about the subject--man, I’ve learned a lot of things from
them!
3. Classic or award winner--the traditional 4 paragraph report 1P=plot
2P=interesting character 3P=interesting part of book 4P=opinion
4. Mystery (My favorite! Excellent mystery stories for 4th grade are The Boxcar
Children books. here I have students write me a letter from a character in the
book (doesn't have to be the detective--could be the bad guy or a "flat"
character). the letter has 3 paragraphs: description of self, what the mystery is,
and how it is solved.
5.Humor create a diorama of the funniest scene in the book and place a 3x5
card on top explaining it
6. Fantasy Sci-Fi create a mobile--with four parts--each part has an illustration
and a description of something from the book that is "fantastical"
7. Historical fiction
I have them create a new cover for the book--front is illustration, title, and author
front inside is a paragraph summary
back inside is an explanation of what makes the book historical fiction.
back is opinion
8.Adventure poster with illustration showing an adventurous part--lots of
description and adjectives--like a movie poster
9. Realistic fiction--create a 3-D poster with stuff they find around the school and
house representations of character, plot, mood, setting must be present--and
explanations for each thing must be on the back
