Environmentally Aware Events Step 1: Gain Management or Sponsor Support Step 2: Set Your Environmental Priorities Step 3: Translate Your Priorities into Actions Step 4: Evaluate the Event and Celebrate Its Success MCMLA 2005 Environmental Policy The MCMLA 2005 Planning Committee is planning an environmentally aware meeting incorporating as many green practices as possible. Our goal is to heighten the environmental consciousness of participants and to promote the idea that it is feasible to plan an environmentally friendly meeting by consciously rethinking our process, reducing and recycling waste, and reusing or purchasing recycled materials. We will evaluate this event and celebrate its success by sharing our experiences with others to inspire them to host green meetings. Approved by MCMLA 2005 Planning Committee: 12/6/2004 Green Team is drafting question lists (see below) (general and specific) for presentation at the January 2005 MCMLA 2005 Planning Committee Meeting for discussion and fine-tuning as a group. Following the January 2005 MCMLA 2005 Planning Committee meeting: o Committee chairs will be involved in talking with or presenting this information to their respective contacts: hotel (JoanS), catering (Erica), program (Claire), exhibits (John), UMFA (JoanS), Education (Jeanne), Registration (Alice), etc. o The Green Team will be glad to assist with this effort by: working on letters to be sent to contacts meeting jointly with the committee chairs and their contact(s) or, in whatever other way each committee would like assistance. Questions for All Contacts We would like to highlight your successful greening efforts on a web page for our conference. o What are you currently doing that might be considered green? o Are you planning any changes in the future to make your operation more environmentally friendly?
