Statement of Research Interests
Generally, I am interested in hydroclimatology over regional and global spatial
scales and over decadal to century time scales, large-scale modeling, climate
dynamics, and climate change impacts on water resources. My current research
goal is to improve our understanding of the role of land surface physical and
biophysical feedback processes in the coupled climate system. I am primarily
interested in the northern high latitudes because these regions appear to be
sensitive to warming, changes in these regions appear to have the potential to
affect global climate, and the feedback processes in these regions are poorly
understood. I am working towards answering the following two questions: (1)
what are the most important controls on runoff variability in the watersheds that
have outlets to the Arctic Ocean, and (2) how do climate-induced changes to the
high-latitude land surface feedback into the coupled climate system. The first
question is being answered in context of an off-line land surface hydrology
model, while the second question will be investigated using a coupled earthsystem model. Previous research included working towards an improved
understanding of recent global hydroclimatology, especially in developing
methods to improve gridded precipitation estimates.
