The Lewisham Drug & Alcohol Training Programme has been designed for staff and volunteers who may work with people who use drugs or are at risk of drug related problems. Please note that only 2 people from the same organisation can be booked to attend the same course on the same day. The aim of the programme is to support the work of implementing DANOS (Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards) and ensuring people have training on the relevant competencies to support their roles. It is also to help Tier 1 services in the early identification and referral process for substance misusing clients and for them to feel confident in their abilities to work with this client group. The DANOS Standards provide a benchmark which specify the standards of performance, that practitioners in the drugs and alcohol field should be working towards. They also describe the set of knowledge, skills and understanding that workers need in order to perform to the required standard. For a full more detailed guidance on DANOS or additional national occupational standards for the Health, Public Services and Care sectors, see http://www.skillsforhealth.org.uk or http://www.fdap.org.uk/DANOS/danos.html Cost Workshops are FREE to anyone providing services in Lewisham and to professionals working in Lewisham, whether paid or unpaid. The workshops are also open to people working outside of the Borough of Lewisham and course fees are £50 for half day courses and £100 for one day courses (per participant). Cheques should accompany the application form and be made payable to: London Borough of Lewisham. Times and Venues The majority of courses start at 9.30am and end at 4pm. Venues are all within in the London Borough of Lewisham. Venues are confirmed two weeks before each course, in case there are any changes. Enrolment To enrol on any of these workshops please complete the application enclosed and return it to the address on the form. All applicants must inform their own training department of any applications they make and should gain consent from their Line Manager. Once we have received your application form, an email of confirmation will be sent to you to confirm your booking. Two weeks prior to the course you will receive another email with further details and a map of the venue. If you have any queries, please contact us on 020 8314 8226. 3 Refreshments Please note that we no longer provide lunches and it is recommended that you make your own arrangements. We provide tea, coffee and whitener only. Cancellations Please provide us 48 hours notice of cancellations. To ensure a fair selection process we are limiting places to two people per organisation, so that each course does not have over representation from one agency. However please leave your name on the reserve list, if someone is unable to attend or cancels their place, we will offer it to people on the reserve list. If, after having been offered a place, you are unable to attend please inform us as soon as possible so that we may offer your place to another applicant. Failure to do so in time will result in a letter being sent to your Line Manager, a £50 fine and denial of a places on future courses We ask that you arrive in good time for the start of the course as late arrival disrupts the day and is disrespectful to fellow colleagues and facilitators. In addition, if you are offered a place, we expect you to attend the whole day. If you are unable to do this, please do not apply for that particular course. All courses will be run again in the future and you will therefore have another chance to attend. To cancel and ensure we have received your cancellation 2 days before the course date, please contact 020 8314 8226 and then follow up with a cancellation email to drugstraining@lewisham.gov.uk. This is to ensure that no one is fined unnecessarily. Please note that if the participant uptake is less than 6 people for each session, we will cancel/rearrange the specified course. In House Training We often have requests for in house training workshops for organisations that cannot attend the training programme. We offer these organisations the opportunity to request in house training but there may be costs involved. To discuss your organisational needs, please contact the team on 0208 314 8226 who will be able to advise you. 4 The Training Courses Basic Drug Awareness Level: Basic Facilitator: Drug & Alcohol Action Team Aim: This workshop has been designed as a “foundation” course to increase participant’s knowledge and awareness of drug use, enabling them to have a basic awareness of drug use and misuse.
