Eligibility criteria are listed in the attached appendix. To apply, students should complete this form and email it to the Secretary, along with a copy of their abstract. In addition, the Geochemistry Group requires a statement of support from the student’s institution that comments on the significance of this research and includes a justification for the funds. This statement of support should be submitted to the Secretary independently of the student. There are three rounds of applications per year; deadlines are published on the Geochemistry Group website (http://www.geolsoc.org.uk/geochemistry). Successful applicants are required to submit a brief report within three months of attendance of the meeting for possible publication on the Group’s website. I am not eligible for Research Council, institute or local authority support in respect of this expenditure Signed: Date: Appendix: Eligibility criteria for the Geochemistry Group student travel bursary Grants will only be awarded to students presenting either an oral or poster presentation. Oral papers will be given precedence and evidence of abstract acceptance should be supplied prior to claiming the award. Grants will only be awarded to student’s whose research falls within the remit of the Geochemistry Group. The applicant should not be otherwise eligible for full funding from existing sources and preference will be given to students who are self or institutionally funded. Preference will be given to students who are members of the Geological Society or Mineralogical Society. Preference will be given to students in their second or third year of study. Preference will be given to students who have previously submitted abstracts to a Geochemistry Group RiP meeting. Grants will only be made to attend meetings that occur after the application deadline. No retrospective applications will be considered. Applicants must declare any previous grants award from the Mineralogical or Geological Societies in the last three years; failure to do so could result in the withdrawal of their funding. Individuals may only receive one bursary from the Mineralogical Society and its special interest groups in a given year. The sum awarded indicates the maximum value of travel cost that the Geochemistry Group will fund and will typically be in the region of £200-£300. Grantees are required to submit a claim form for their travel expenses accompanied by receipts. Only the actual cost of travel will be reimbursed even when this is less than the sum awarded.
