Metal Fabricator Puts Design Tools Online to Help Homeowners Create Address Numbers In
Any Font, Any Size
Santa Rosa, CA – September 23, 2002 – Customhousenumbers.com enables visitors to preview and
order address numbers in nearly any font, size and finish. The website’s most inspiring and time
saving feature – dubbed the “Font Machine” – depicts any address entered in 22 different fonts
simultaneously.
In keeping with the philosophy of the growing design-to-order (DTO) industry,
customhousenumbers.com invites users to express themselves creatively and become a part of the
customization process. As a result, the site has become popular with not only designers and
architects, but even more so with the general public, who bring tastes ranging from historic and
traditional to mid-century modern and beyond.
“If - after using the site’s two Font Machines – visitors can’t find the look they’re after,” says company
Site Developer Denise Evens, “we encourage them to visit sites like www.myfonts.com, where over
17,000 fonts have been painstakingly cross-indexed by style, era, and more.”
Numbers are priced per set, based upon height, thickness, material and finish. Visitors can produce
their own ballpark price quotes in real-time using the site’s Price Calculator.
Once an order is placed, the completed product is either cut with a waterjet from aluminum sheets –
in ¼, 3/8 or ½ inch thicknesses, or constructed as a hollow channel from 18ga (0.048” thick) stainless
steel. This latter method allows for greater apparent thickness with less weight. For example, an 8
inch high by 1 inch thick number “8” in Helvetica Bold barely tips the scales at 15 ounces, vs. eight
and a half pounds were it to be created from solid stainless steel. This results in a savings in both
material and shipping, which is passed on to the customer.
Finish options for solid aluminum digits range from clearcoated natural satin (“brushed”) or polished,
to a large assortment of anodized and baked enamel coatings. The hollow channel stainless steel
address digits can be produced either satin or polished in natural stainless or titanium-clad stainless
in colors gold or bronze. All orders ship with installation instructions, hardware and a 1:1 installation
template.
Since 1999, site owner and metal fabricator Apollo Marconi has satisfied aesthetically demanding
homeowners from across the United States with distinctive custom address numbers in stainless
steel or aluminum. “We have found,” says Ms. Evens, “that whether a site visitor is earnestly seeking
the right numbers for a painstakingly renovated collector property, or just trying to notch up the curb
appeal of a vinyl-clad builder home – they seldom leave empty-handed.”
