VCE Mathematical Methods (CAS) School-assessment Audit and Review Program – Coversheet Stage 2 Evidence Collection The purpose of the school-assessment audit and review program is to validate the quality of school-based assessment programs and to identify instances for school improvement. In addition it may provide an opportunity to recognise excellence in assessment design and practices. The audit also helps provide feedback to the VCAA on the implementation of school-based assessment. The audit results for each study will be emailed to each provider. If the audit submission meets the requirements of the study design no further action will be required by the provider for Unit 3. If the audit submission is missing material or otherwise does not meet the requirements of the study design the VCAA will determine follow-up action, normally including contact with the VCE Coordinator and/or the Principal and relevant teaching staff. Providers selected to submit further evidence for audit must submit the teacher generated material electronically to the VCAA as one PDF (or Word) file for each study. This PDF (or Word) file for each study must contain: the completed coversheet all tasks for all outcomes presented in sequential order evidence of scoring practice, for example a marking guide, a criteria sheet, performance descriptors (page reference from the assessment handbook is sufficient) any other material specifically requested from your school (e.g. student work). The email address is school.assessment.vcaa@edumail.vic.gov.au If student work has been requested, the work of the specified student/s must be photocopied and sent through the post. The work should be clearly labeled with the school name; the VCAA school code; and the student number/s. Please note that this work will not be returned. Student work should be addressed to: VCAA School-based Assessment Audit – Mathematical Methods (CAS) Curriculum Division Level 32, 2 Lonsdale Street MELBOURNE VIC 3000 Emailed audit submissions (attachments) should be named using the following file convention: study code and unit_VCAA school number_School name For example, a submission for Mathematical Methods (CAS) Unit 3 for VCAA school number 01234 would be named: MA113_01234_ABC Secondary College The VCE study code is available in the current VCE and VCAL Administrative Handbook. © VCAA MATHEMATICAL METHODS (CAS) PLEASE COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING TABLE: School name: VCAA School number: School telephone number: Study name: Mathematical Methods (CAS) Unit: 3 Study teacher name: Study teacher email: IF the VCAA wants to communicate with you about your submission when is the best time to contact you? © VCAA 2 MATHEMATICAL METHODS (CAS) STUDY SPECIFIC PRACTICES Mathematical Methods (CAS) has three scored School-assessed Coursework outcomes in Unit 3. Outcome 1: Define and explain key concepts as specified in the content from the areas of study, and apply a range of related mathematical routines and procedures. The assessment task type/s I used to assess my students was: ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... Outcome 2: Apply mathematical processes in non-routine contexts, and analyse and discuss these applications of mathematics. The assessment task type/s I used to assess my students was: ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... Outcome 3: Select and appropriately use a computer algebra system and other technology to develop mathematical ideas, produce results and carry out analysis in situations requiring problem-solving, modelling or investigative techniques or approaches. The assessment task type/s I used to assess my students was: ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... © VCAA 3 MATHEMATICAL METHODS (CAS) ASSESSMENT PRACTICES For each task specified above, please submit details of the scoring practice used, for example: VCAA assessment descriptors (page references only) Adapted VCAA assessment descriptors (provide details) Own criteria sheet or scoring method (provide details) Other (provide details) If you have multiple classes, what method of internal moderation did your school use to ensure consistency across the cohort? ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... TASK AUTHENTICATION What processes do you have in place to ensure all students sign the Authentication Record for School-assessed Coursework? ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... ..................................................................................................................................... © VCAA 4 MATHEMATICAL METHODS (CAS) TASK CONDITIONS Complete the following table. If there are multiple tasks for each outcome, complete a separate column for each task. Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Outcome 3 Task conditions TASK 1 TASK 2 TASK 1 TASK 2 TASK 1 TASK 2 What time was allocated to the task? Were students allowed notes for the task? Were students allowed dictionaries during the task? Did multiple classes undertake the task at the same time? If not how did the school ensure that no student was advantaged or disadvantaged. © VCAA 5
