Press Release
Sigma’s ‘Il Mondo della Frutta’ store successfully rolls out
ZBD electronic shelf labels in Italy
05 July 2010, Sigma, the Italian supermarket group with over 2,000 stores,
has successfully implemented electronic shelf labels from ZBD, the epaper for
retail specialist, in its brand new ‘Il Mondo della Frutta’ concept store in
Boltiere near Bergamo, Italy. The project was undertaken by Proxima
Centauri, a retail systems specialist, and ZBD’s VISION partner in Italy.
The retailer has introduced a mixed estate of ZBD’s epop (electronic point of
purchase) displays within its delicatessen, meat and bakery departments.
ZBD’s range of electronic shelf labels has been deployed with the larger
displays (epop 300s and 500s) installed in the fresh departments, while the
smaller epop 50 displays are being used in the chilled section.
Andrea Villani looks after the stores network for Consorzio Europa, Sigma’s
distribution centre and said “The ZBD solution is business critical to Sigma, as
Italian law requires that all meat provenance information is displayed clearly
and accurately, to avoid the risk of fines. As this information is subject to
frequent change, the ZBD solution provides a reliable and labour saving
solution. We selected ZBD’s epop range because they offered the best
solution in terms of infrastructure, a fast roll out and a rapid return on
investment.”
ZBD’s solution will help Sigma manage price promotions and food wastage
within the delicatessen department, where there is also a requirement to
display the ingredients in products. Price reductions can be displayed quickly,
helping to reduce wastage.
Commenting on the project, Gianluca Pinoli, Sales Manager for Proxima
Centauri, said, “Sigma selected the ZBD solution because they recognised it
as the market leader. Other retailers that have already successfully
implemented the solution have commented on the fast implementation that
they have enjoyed, in addition to its minimal requirements in terms of
infrastructure, and the positive comments that they’ve received from store
associates and customers.”
David Rogers, Sales & Marketing Director for ZBD, said, “Sigma wanted a
solution that offered attractive fully graphical displays with a multi-functional
capability that would fit in with the contemporary look of the new store. The
ZBD solution ticked all the boxes, and looks great now that it is fully installed.”
Future plans include the implementation of ZBD’s epop 50s, the smallest
display in the range, throughout the store.
