Job Title: International Editorial
Reports to: Head of Creative
Location: London, UK
OVERALL PURPOSE

To be the lead editor for World Animal Protection

To provide editorial guidance and advice to all teams across the organisation
– including the global communications and campaigns teams

To be lead on editorial best practice and procedures

To be responsible for the delivery of effective communications materials
(on/offline copy and publications) for World Animal Protection’s International
office

To work closely with the brand team as the brand guardian for all editorial work
across the organisation

To work closely with the External Affairs, Research and Learning teams,
providing editorial assistance for key stakeholder and policy maker
engagement

Define the editorial content strategy and editorial plan for the organisation

Deliver creative excellence in response to business requirements
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Copy

To lead on and provide excellent, accurate and on brand copy for a broad
range of audiences – including corporates, consumers, policymakers and
academics - and channels

To have overall responsibility for the editorial process for all publications
developed in the International office including copy editing and arranging
proofreading and other editorial support where needed

To support and guide the global teams in their copy development

Project management of content for print projects ensuring that all projects
meet the agreed brief, are on-brand and represent value for money
Brand and Messaging

To lead on, advise and champion guidance on style and tone for all editorial
work promoting World Animal Protection

To work closely with all teams across International to help develop messaging
that is on brand and promotes the organisation’s tone of voice

To support the global teams in delivering editorial work that promotes the
World Animal Protection brand

To develop concepts, pitches and ideas for WSPA campaigns and initiatives
To play a core role in the creative team to ensure consistency of all creative
outputs, in particular written style

Providing support to regions on tone and messaging for key stories

Providing editorial advice to programme authors
Web content development

Writing on brand copy from advocacy actions to campaign messaging

Working with/advising Digital Content Editor as required
Management

Oversee and lead editorial freelancers, to ensure that content projects’ tone of
voice are on brand, are completed on schedule, within budget, and handled
thoroughly and accurately

Recruiting expert freelance editors for projects
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education to degree level - desirable

Journalistic qualification NCTJ or equivalent – desirable
EXPERIENCE:

Proven and substantial editorial and project management experience

Substantial and proven experience of working with all levels within
organisations, specifically collaborating with and influencing stakeholder
engagement teams

An in-house creative team background is desirable
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
The job holder will be required to have the following skills:

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Advanced copywriting skills and experience

Experience of writing content across on and offline channels

Proven experience of writing public facing marketing led copy and stakeholder
focused content which can engage the public in World Animal Protection’s work

An understanding and proven experience of writing content which can engage a
range of different audiences, including corporates, Government officials and
supporters

Ability to plan and prioritise workload across short-term and long-term needs

Flexibility and sensitivity when responding to conflicting priorities and produce
clear briefs and compelling content that meets audience and organisational needs

The ability to work internationally and in a multi-cultural environment

Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills

Experience and understanding of the briefing, design, print and production
process

Experience of building collaborative, strong relationships with other departments at
all levels

Works well within the team environment and able to work under pressure of
competing deadlines

Desire to 'own' responsibility and be accountable for driving editorial excellence
through the organisation

Highly creative with a desire to pitch in and work with the team to meet company
objectives

Excellent diplomacy and negotiation skills, able to persuade effectively and deliver
convincing arguments with a close attention to accuracy

Excellent presentation skills, able to present different ideas and concepts to all
teams across the organisation

IT / computer literate using Microsoft packages

Experience of working with a team of freelancers, briefing, delegating and
monitoring them effectively

Ability to provide coaching, feedback and guidance to others, at all levels

The working language will be English; working knowledge of another language
used by World Animal Protection offices would be beneficial


Works quickly and diligently
Diplomatically provides feedback and advice to colleagues on their content
requirements

Confident, diplomatic and persuasive presentation technique
