Job Title Environmental Monitoring Officer 2 ( Analysis & Reporting) Organization Name Brief Description The successful candidate will be required to be an effective member of a committed team which delivers an the integrated ecological service that harnesses our monitoring data to achieve real environmental improvements. Position Specific Information You will primarily be responsible for biological sample analysis and interpretation. You will assist with routine and investigative biological monitoring, pollution incidents, fish surveys and the provision of specialist advice at an appropriate level. More specifically your role involves the analysis of invertebrate and diatom samples, data entry and management. A key feature is the accurate analysis of freshwater invertebrate samples; training and coaching will be provided to further develop your ability to identify ecological specimens. You will be required to regularly update and maintain quality assured information on the relevant databases. You will also undertake statistical analysis, data interpretation and reporting to provide good quality, timely data and information to support local and national planning and decision making. You will need good team working skills and be expected to liaise closely with other Agency functions as well as the public and external customers. Detailed Description Job purpose Carry out monitoring and sample analysis; assist with routine data interpretation and reporting to support environmental monitoring programmes; provide good quality data and information to customers, including incident response when necessary ensuring your work contributes to positive environmental outcomes. Accountabilities 1. Prepare reports, including sample interpretation and statistical analysis, from information and field investigations; provide accurate and timely information so that managers can make operational decisions. 2. Analyse samples in line with agreed processes and area priorities; provide good quality and timely data to support environmental planning and decision making. 3. Support specialist monitoring survey work and data collection; contribute to the area monitoring programme, the business plan and positive environmental outcomes. 4. Develop and maintain a strong internal/external customer focus; build effective relationships and work well with partners to achieve environmental goals. 5. Promote awareness of health & safety best practice; ensure you use safe working practices to comply with our own policies and standards. 6. Regularly update and maintain information on the relevant database(s) and public registers to ensure that it complies with current legislation and our own standards.
