COURSE OFFERINGS:

Course Title: Art I

Prerequisite: None

Length: One year

Fee: $10 plus student purchase of specified art supplies, art box, and a portfolio

The primary emphasis is developing 2-dimensional skills by refining drawing skills through experimentation of various media, technique, and styles. Projects reinforce previous knowledge of Elements of Design. Some 3-dimensional media are introduced. Related art historical perspectives and art appreciation are discussed. Research projects and presentations will be included. Weekly sketchbook assignments are given as homework.

Course Title: Art II

Prerequisite: “C” or better in Art I or teacher recommendation

Length: One year

Fee: $10 plus student purchase of specified art supplies, art box, and a portfolio

Good drawing skills and keen interest s in art are expected from those enrolling in this course.

The primary emphasis is to develop skills in the use of various media to complete both 2 and 3dimensional projects related to Principles of Design. Art appreciation and related art historical perspectives are explored. Research projects and presentations will be included. Weekly sketchbook assignments are given as homework. Some written projects may be included.

Course Title: Art III

Prerequisite: “C” or better in Art II or teacher recommendation

Length: One year

Fee: $10 plus student purchase of specified art supplies, art box, and a portfolio

Excellent drawing skills, self-motivation, a keen interest in art, and creativity are required to develop concepts into original works of art. The emphasis is placed on conceptualization and completion of 2 and 3-dimensional projects. New and previously introduced media are used to develop skills. Project evaluation is based on previously obtained understanding and use of

Elements and Principles of Design. Continued investigation of art appreciation and related art history serve as topics for research and presentation. Related sketchbook assignments are given as homework.

Course Title: Art IV

Prerequisites: "B" or better in Art III or teacher recommendation

Length: One year

Fee: $10 plus student purchase of specified art supplies, art box, and a portfolio

This course is intended for the serious art student who intends to further his/her education in art after secondary school. Excellent drawing skills, self-motivation, a keen interest in art, and creativity are required to develop concepts into original works of art. Students are expected to develop artwork through research, conceptualization and completion of a product. Self-guided learning within a limited variety of media and technique is encouraged. A portfolio is developed and completed as part of the final grade. Related sketchbook and research assignments are given as homework.

Course Title: Instrumental Music (Band)

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation

Length:

Fee:

One year (may be repeated for credit)

A rental fee will be charged for students requesting school instrument use.

In addition, a transportation fee will be assessed each semester.

Band will undertake to develop and refine basic music fundamentals, ensemble musicianship, marching fundamentals, music theory, technique, intonation, and band spirit. Band members will participate in marching band for football games and parades, pep band, and a number of concerts as well as performances at community functions during the school year. Band students also have the opportunity to participate in Jazz Band, solo and ensemble contest, the conference festival, IMEA District Festival, and IHSA Organizational Contest.

Course Title: Vocal Music (High School Choir)

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation

Length:

Fee:

One year (may be repeated for credit)

A transportation fee will be assessed each semester.

Students will have the opportunity to participate in a mixed group of voices. Choir will develop basic music fundamentals, enhance musicianship and improve vocal technique. Choir members will present several concerts throughout the year, occasionally sing the National Anthem at sporting events and have the opportunity to participate in solo and ensemble contests, IMEA

District Festival, and IHSA Organizational Contest.

Course Title: Musical Productions (Theater)

Prerequisite: None

Length: One semester ( not offered during the 2014-2015 school year)

This is a course designed to learn about the process of producing musical theatre productions and the stage. Theatre history will be studied as well as the technical aspects such as monologues, improvisations, makeup, vocal production, technical design, acting and movement. Part of this course will be working on the fall musical production.

Course Title: Musical Productions II (Theater)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Theatre I and teacher recommendation

Length: One semester (may be repeated for credit with teacher approval)

(not offered during the 2014-2015 school year)

This course is designed for the student intending to advance their theater skills after completing

Musical Productions I. The course will have advanced studies in improvisation, dramatic and musical presentation. Students will also be responsible for creating and building the set for the spring musical production as well as other design needs.
