Reclaim – Gloucestershire’s Furniture Recycling Project More and more people, many on low incomes, are benefiting from the good quality reusable furniture and household goods available at Reclaim's warehouse in Lansdown Industrial Estate. Reclaim is part of sustainability charity Vision 21, and works on a not for profit basis helping alleviate deprivation and avoiding landfill at the same time. But as Cheltenham's own furniture re-use scheme it depends on the generosity of the town's residents to donate their unwanted but re-usable goods. Warehouse manager Craig Dickson says "it's important that people keep thinking of us even though they might be hanging on to things a bit longer in the economic downturn - times are tighter still for many of our customers". Also many retailers offer to take back electric cookers fridges and freezers when they deliver new items. They do this as an extra favour as part of their compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment regulations. However this means fewer perfectly re-usable appliances are being donated to Reclaim, which means they are unable to pass them on to low income households which can make good use of the life still left in them. Well meaning legislation is having an unfortunate result. But there’s an answer - So if you’d like to see your old but reusable appliance go to a good home, Reclaim will collect it in Cheltenham at 24 hours notice, Monday - Friday. Just give them a call on 228823. Note this doesn’t apply to gas appliances and older non-scart TVs.)
