Annie Trotta 5-23-11 C4 Social Studies Mr. Emmi Capstone Project Q: Why do people normally go to warmer areas instead of colder areas? Climate change is important. It affects the way people live, especially where people live. A lot of people live in areas that they think has good weather. Some people live in areas where they don’t like the weather. Some people, if they are form the Southern area, it is extremely cold for them in the spring up in the Northern area. In the United States most people live in the south-western region because it is always warm and has nice weather. There is a plus side to living in the southern states because people tend to get sicker in colder states. People don’t really live in Alaska because it’s so cold, also because there is a lot of snow. It’s also known as the coldest state in America. There are more people living in the southern states. For example, in Arizona and California there is a bigger population there than in some of the northern states. But there is one plus side to living in the northern states, you get to experience all four seasons. You can’t in the southern states. That was some weather from the northern and southern states in America. Now in Latin America, there are all types of climates. Some places are extremely warm and some are not that warm. In the hotter areas, it’s normally extremely hot during the day. And then at night it becomes extremely cold. In theses areas there is rarely wind, so they are kind of lucky if they get wind. In other areas, like near the Gulf of Mexico, it’s windy because of the ocean breeze. Also near the Gulf of Mexico, it can be very humid, and sometimes it rains, but mostly in the afternoon. That is what the weather is kind of like in a region in Mexico, in Latin America. Now into the region of Asia, there are also a lot of different types of climates, like in Latin America. There are deserts, rainforests, forests and so much more that people can explore and learn about. For example in China, the winters are bitter cold and the summers are blazing with heat. It is extremely cold from December to March. In Beijing temperatures can go as low as negative 20 degrees Celsius in the night time. At those times there is no sun and it’s dry out. Further north it can reach as low as negative 40 Celsius, but that is not very common. Even some times, some of the sand dunes will be covered with snow. Weather can really change, especially in Asia, so people normally live in the better climates. In the continent of Europe, it can be very cold and it can be very warm. It all depends on where you live. In Ireland, the climate is normally cold, but sometimes the weather is good. The most normal climate is cloudy. Every now and then, there is sun but mostly cloudy. In the winter it can be extremely cold, and I do mean extremely cold. The average temperature is about 5 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature is unbelievable in Ireland, in the winter. This just shows one area, not a lot of people live in Ireland. It is mostly because of the climate but some people still enjoy it. In the region of Africa, it is mostly hot, humid, and dry, but sometimes that can be good. There are eight main climates that are in Africa. They are, tropical rain forest, humid subtropical, Mediterranean, savanna, steppe, desert, highland, and marine. About fifty percent of Africa has barely any rain and about ninety two percent of Africa has major droughts when water is needed the most. And then from that, the last remaining eight percent has about ten to twelve months of rain. Also, Africa is one third of all the world arid lands. Africa’s climate also changes a lot from tropical to sub arctic, and the northern half is just pretty much deserts and arid lands, also, in the central and southern areas, its mostly just jungles and savannas. That is the basic climate in Africa. In conclusion, more people do tend to live in the warmer areas. Except for in Africa, there are not a lot of people living there because it’s way to hot. To have a big population, the country needs to be the perfect climate. For example, in China, over the entire climate is not that bad, but the weather still has its ups and downs. In other places like Ireland or Alaska where the climate is mostly cold, not a lot people live there, all because of how cold it is. People do normally live in better climates than in other places.
