General information:
What are the age requirements for each division?
The below ages are based on the actual age as of December 31 of the current year:
Junior-Mites
Cheer Leading-Beginners, or those not comfortable in team competitions. This is
usually for ages 7-11, and in Kindergarten/First grade up to grade 4.
Basketball- Beginners, must be in 4th grade or below and under age 11 but not under
age 7. This is a co-ed league.
Mites
Must be in 6th grade or below, and under age 13 but not under age 8 (See specifics for
cheerleading) . Cheer leading and basketball.
Cadets
Must be in 8th grade or below, and under age 15 but not under age 10. (See specifics for
cheerleading) . Cheer leading and basketball
Seniors
Must be in 9th- 12th grade, and under age 19 but not under age 14. Cheer
leading and basketball.
When does our season start?
Our season begins in late September each team or squad has its own practice time:

Times and number of days may change according to hall availability and coaches’ discretion. Weekdays include
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings in two slots, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm and 7:30pm – 9:00pm.
There may also be practices on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons depending on hall availability.
What will you need to purchase for your child?
Basketball players are required to purchase basketball sneakers and mouth guards. Cheerleaders are required to
purchase cheerleading sneakers, a body suit, briefs, and socks. There may be additional purchases required for
competitions.

Our playing season runs from October to March, approximately 16 weeks long with approximately 10 games, not
including the playoffs (basketball players) and competitions (cheerleaders).
What is expected of all basketball players and cheerleaders?
1.
Must be an SJN parishioner for at least 1 year (exception: recent move to area or not belonging to another
parish previously). Based upon availability, we also accept parishioners from Our Lady of Mercy and St.
Patrick in Milford.
2. Must be registered and attend Religious Education classes (CCD) in your parish with the following
exceptions:
 Sacrament of Confirmation received.
 Attends Catholic school during a non-Sacrament year.
3. Must attend all practices (notify your coach if you will be absent).
4. Must attend all games (notify your coach if you will be absent).
5. Listen and follow directions.
6. Behave as a Christian and sportsperson at all times.
7. Obey all rules and regulations.
8. Work hard.
9. Participate in SJN CYO community service project.
10. Support your teammates.
11. All uniforms must be returned in good condition (parents are financially responsible for damaged or lost
uniforms).
12. Have fun!
Registration:
Registration fees are required at the time of registration. No child will be allowed to participate until registration
is paid in full. The registration fee covers the use of the equipment, Deanery dues, insurance, and miscellaneous
expenses. Teams participating in tournaments may be required to pay the entry fee.
If you are new to the St. John Neumann CYO program or did not participate last year a copy of your child’s
birth certificate will be required.

A $10 discount will be offered per additional child for families with more than one child being registered.
NOTE: Registration fees are non-refundable if a child voluntarily withdraws from the program after
November 1 of the current year. A copy of your child’s birth certificate will be required if this is his/her
first year at the Mite level or above.
CYO Spirit Wear
St. John Neumann CYO Basket Ball and Cheer jackets are available at a cost of $50.00. They must be
pre-ordered and paid for at the time of registration, orders will not be taken at any other time during the
season.
What do the athletes get from the program and the registration and fund raising money?

Over 200 hours of volunteered practices and games with certified coaches.
The opportunity to play or cheer in 10 games with paid referees.
The use of S.J.N uniforms.
All athletes are covered by supplemental insurance.
All costs for referees, court fees, awards, CYO jackets, and any safety equipment needed.
The opportunity of being part of a great team that learns the meaning of team work in a fun environment.
Every family will be invited to the Deanery Awards Banquet and the S.J.N Awards Banquet (a social event
held at the end of the season).
Cheerleaders have the opportunity to cheer in 1 or more competitions per season (Junior Mites may be
exhibition only).
