Summary:
This collection contains negatives, proof sheets, and prints
of photographs taken by the student staff of The Torch, the
student newspaper for Lane Community College. Most of
the photographs are black and white and document
college events and news items that appeared in the
newspaper.

Administrative History:
The Torch is the official student-managed newspaper of Lane Community College. The
Torch was first published in November 1965. It is currently published every Thursday
during Fall, Winter and Spring terms.
The Torch is an award-winning, student-produced, weekly campus newspaper with an
average circulation of 4,000. It is published by authority of the Lane Community College
Board of Education through the Media Commission; it is an autonomous newspaper free
from censorship by the college administration, faculty, and student government.
The Torch provides news and information of importance and interest to Lane students
and staff; serves as a learning laboratory for students of journalism, graphic arts,
photography, publishing and advertising; and provides a communication channel for
student commentary and debate.
Content Description:
This collection contains negatives, proof sheets, and prints of photographs taken by the
student staff of The Torch, the student newspaper for Lane Community College. Most of
the photographs are black and white and document college events and news items that
appeared in the newspaper. Typical subjects include sports, art and performing arts
such as dance and theater, student events and activities, college staff and students, and
classroom activities.
