Come to share Julia’s vision of lily flower essences as a medicine wheel, the wheel of life, and ongoing spiral of
personal transformation. The Lily Circle accompanies us on our journey from birth to death, and through all stages
of becoming and passing in daily life. Lily essences enhance intuition, spiritual aspirations and female
consciousness. They are also important in addressing fertility and relationship issues for men and women alike. Easy
to use, they can help us overcome the challenges of our lives. A small, comprehensible system of flower essences, it
is ideal for beginners. Come be enchanted by the lilies! For more in depth information see Healing with Lilies.

Healing with Lilies – Practitioners’ Training
In order to allow practitioners to deepen their experience and understanding of the Lily Circle, this class presents
how to make sensible combinations, how to build people up step by step after severe trauma, and other clinically
relevant questions such as differentiating between closely related essences. The focus will be on other essences than
in the previous years to allow practitioners to deepen their understanding. Now available is also a 140 page detailed
treatment guide for practitioners. If you are a Lily essence practitioner, feel free to bring your cases experiences and
questions to share in class. Upon special request, we can see a client in student's clinic. For beginners to flower or
lily essences, it is best to take the introductory class An Introduction to Healing with Lily Flower Essences first. To
learn to use essences externally, consider the class Using Flower Essences in Body Work

Tongue Assessment Technique
The appearance of the tongue is ever changing and reveals a lot about the present state of health or ill health. Since it
mirrors the inner organs, it is a precious window into the inside of the body. In this class, we will learn about, and
train in, the basics of tongue assessment technique, which includes assessment of its color, shape, and coating.
Simultaneously, we will learn about the herbs that could apply for each case. Consider also taking the class on Face
Assessment Technique for a more complete assessment picture.
May 31 (6:30pm – 9:30pm) $42
Face Assessment Technique
The state of our health is written in our face, thus visible to anyone who knows to read it. As it betrays what the
client will or cannot tell, it is indispensable to any health practitioner. An ancient art, it reveals the person’s
constitution, predominant element, and strengths and weaknesses. Of preeminent importance, this class furthermore
offers an overview over major signs of organ weakness or disease. Consider also taking the class on Tongue
Assessment Technique for a more complete assessment picture.

June 1 and 2 (9:30am – 4:30pm)
Beginning Cupping, a two day class $260.00:
We will focus on the basic techniques and theory, including the reflex and organ zones as well as the underlying
physiology. It is typically reported from students, that even when they are an experienced practitioner of healing
arts, and even have cupping experience, that the beginning cupping has added depth to their current practice. You
will learn the basics of how and why cupping works, and the physiological research from Germany and Austria that
explains how what we are doing is effective.
Beginning Cupping with Julia Graves has proved very useful and instructive even for TCM practitioners, adding
greatly to their cupping training and knowledge.
We will begin by covering the history of cupping and give a brief overview of cupping in different traditions
worldwide. We will cover the cupping methods, different forms of glasses and their use, chiefly fire cups, rubber top
glasses and plastic suction cups. We will learn how and why cupping works, study relevant anatomy and
physiology, and two of the most widely applicable and relevant settings of glasses.
The first day focuses on the treatment of the entire back, and discusses the organ reflex zones. Included will be
indications and contraindications. Be prepared to pair up to cup and be cupped, since it is only by experiencing
cupping on our own body that we can fully understand its effect. We will train how to set fire and suction cups. Be
sure to have someone willing to have you practice on them lined up after the first day. On Day Two, we review all
questions that arose from cupping practice and review the setting technique of what we learned so far. This requires
all students to have cupped at least one or more people. This is essential, since we do not become aware of what we
did not understand, until we find ourselves having to do it by ourselves. We will review the technique of setting fire
cups, including now different ways of lighting fire cups. Day two teachings include treatment with sliding cups. We
spend most of the time to learn and practice special settings such as for the joints, as well as the use of moxa.
June 3 (4:30pm – 6:00pm) $24
Medicine Tree Walk on Lake Calhoun
The wealth of the healing power of the trees of the North East is often neglected, yet they were widely used in the
past. Come meet new friends, such as White Ash, Slippery Elm, Willow and Pine, and find out what they have to
offer us!
June 3 (7:00pm – 9:30pm) $36
Herbs for City Dwellers
Modern city life is fast, stressful and demanding. Consequently, all city dwellers – healers and clients alike – tend to
have similar stress patterns, and thus the same stressed organ systems. Come to learn the top herbs to consider, and
learn about the typical organ systems that need herbal support. This class discusses the herbs for the stress of city
life from nervines to liver herbs that are not adaptogens. For an in-depth discussion on adaptogens, see Herbs for
Stress and Stamina
June 4, Tuesday
(2:30pm-5:30pm) Beginning Tincture Making $42
(6:30pm-9:00pm) Advanced Tincture Making $36
Tincture making is something that is hard to learn from a book. Traditionally learned in an apprenticeship and from
years of experience, each herb has its own way of reacting in the process. In this hands-on, very practical class
master herbalist Julia Graves shares from a lifetime of experience, presenting tincture making as an alchemical
process. We will discuss various solvents and alcohols, alcohol contents, plants and plant constituents, tincturing
methods, how to monitor the extraction process, typical mistakes and much more, but most of all what's needed to
make a vibrant, high quality product. (These classes are best taken with The Herbal Vehicle for a full understanding
of the depth of the issue.)

June 5 (6:30pm – 9:00pm) $36
The Herbal Vehicle - How Best to Deliver the Herbal Effect to the Body
This is a class about the lost art of what was called the “vehicle”. Once well understood in all traditional systems
world wide, offering the same herb as a hot versus cold tea, baked in starch, steeped in wine versus vinegar changes
the effect it has and what it heals. This alchemical understanding has now been lost in the West. The art is still
preserved in the teachings of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is high time to recall what the ancient
Western herbal have to offer about this, and to learn to deliver a cooling herb in a cooling vehicle to a heated
condition for an optimal effect. (This class is best taken with Advanced Tincture Making for a full understanding of
the depth of the issue.)
June 6 (6:30pm – 9:30pm) $42
Herbs, Fasting and Detox
Herbs greatly enhance and ease the process of detoxification that we seek with various cleanses and cures. This class
sheds light on how to use herbs in tandem with water, juice, or soup fasting, a grape cure, kitchari fast, triphala,
gallbladder cleanse, touch upon different baths and enemas, as well as binding agents. It presents the advantages and
disadvantages of the various cures, also in the light of different constitutional types.
June 7 (2:00pm – 5:00pm) $42
Herbal Treatments for Musculo-Skeletal Conditions
The thorough and differentiated treatment of our muscles, bones, and tendons is often neglected in herbal teaching in
favor of treating the internal organs. However, their ailments are very common and most adults suffer from injuryrelated and other problems in the connective tissues. Taught by a practicing herbalist and body worker, this class is
about learning to “think muscle / tendon / bone.” It considers the tissue states, such as dry versus damp joints, inner
scaring and adhesions, and other common conditions. We will look at using herbs – the well-known and not so wellknown ones - as well as essential oils, resins, flower essences and other plant medicines. An ideal class for body
workers.
June 7 (6:30pm – 9:30pm) $42
Flower Essences for Musculoskeletal Issues
Flower essences are gentle yet powerful energetic preparations that can be used externally to shift the body's energy
and bring about healing. This hands-on class is designed for all those who wish to use flower essences in body work.
Taught by a flower essence practitioner and creator who is at the same time a massage therapist as well as an energy
body worker, this class is down to earth and practical. Please be prepared to pair up and practice on one another. An
ideal introduction to the topic. Handout will be available in this class for a nominal fee.

Adaptogens - Herbs for Stress and Stamina
Adaptogens are a group of pop herbs that despite the sometimes over the top marketing efforts are very precious:
there are world-wide only a small group of herbs that help the body generally and overall adapt to stress and
enhance stamina. From the ginsengs to rhodiola, many enhance immunity, clarity of mind, and other vital functions,
too. Essential to know for modern people, this class includes a presentation of the major adaptogens, their actions,
use and abuse, as well as instructions for differential diagnosis between them. Adaptonges are best taken in tandem
with Herbs for City Dwellers.
Intermediate to advanced.
A handout will be available in this class for a nominal fee.
June 8 (9:00am – 12:00Noon) $42
In Spirit of the Womb – The Clinical Use of Flower Essences
This class presents flower essences that are specific to healing the womb, that are inspired by the womb, as well as
those for spiritual healing. While flower essences are purely vibrational and energy medicine preparations, they can
be used highly specifically. This starts with a precise understanding of their energetic properties and actions, as well
as the relationship between the plant's action as an herb and as a flower essence. Taking the example of flower
essences for healing the womb, we will discuss symptom pictures, applications, and courses of treatment. Of special
interest to Mayan Abdominal Therapy practitioners, this class will not cover Lily flower essences, as they are
presented in a separate workshop. We will focus on different essences than in last year's class. To learn to use
essences externally, consider the class Flower Essences for Muskuloskeletal Issues.
Beginner to intermediate
Handouts will be available in this class for a nominal fee.
June 9 (10:30am – 12:00Noon) $24
Doctrine of Signature, special herb walk at Lake Calhoun
In this plant walk along Lake Calhoun, we will take the doctrine of signatures out of its medieval box, dust if off,
and apply it to the plants we encounter on our path. This ancient art of reading plants for their medicinal properties
is not hard once you learn to see the ‘signatures’ or signs. The language of nature is straightforward; the only
prerequisite are clear senses and an open mind.
