Elementary Curriculum Maps and Resources Please share the following resources with your teachers. For teachers who are following EnVision and Treasures, these resources will support them. For teachers who are designing their curriculum using the Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop model or Problem Solving models, these resources will help them know what standards will be assessed in the first instructional block. Check out the OPENING STRONG link on the ESC West Math Website if you would like to provide your teachers with ideas for: establishing a culture of collaboration and respect for others communicating that problem solving and math reasoning will be a norm explaining the math practices in student friendly language Placement test results. Please utilize the parent letter templates to inform families of the results from the middle school algebra 1 summative test. 8th grade textbooks. Students need both volumes of McGraw Hill’s CA Math for the first instructional unit. McGraw Hill textbooks are consumable, and don’t need to be barcoded. CPM and Go Math textbooks need to be barcoded. Algebra 1 Textbooks. Since CC Algebra 1 is now considered a high school course, we expect higher enrollment in high school Algebra 1 and lower enrollment in middle schools. We may need to shift some algebra 1 textbooks from middle to the high schools. High schools should check enrollment numbers against your algebra textbook inventory, and contact your feeder middle schools if you anticipate a shortage. Teacher Leader Network. Develop the math leadership capacity of your teachers by sending 1-3 teachers to this year’s teacher leader network meetings. Dates and topics of the meetings are posted in the Teacher Leader Network Section of the ESC West Secondary Math Website. Deadline August/September 2014 Reference Documents Documentation for Employees Paid from Federal and State Categorical Programs: Federal and State regulations require supporting documentation, in addition to time cards, for all personnel who receive any payment (compensation) from federal funds or from state categorical funds. This supporting documentation will vary depending upon the funding source(s) or nature of the job duties. Prepare Parents’ Right to Know letter indicating that parents may request information regarding the qualifications of their child’s teacher(s) and paraprofessionals (MEM-6161.0). 2. Prepare control records for all funding sources. EL Master Plan Initial CELDT: Kindergarten and other potential English Learners need to be assessed with Initial CELDT within 30 calendar days. Initial Parent Notification Requirements: Per Title III guidelines, ensure to provide the following parent notifications to parents of English Learners within 30 calendar days from the beginning of the school year: Parents of New Enrollees: Initial Notification of Enrollment in the Elementary Structure English Immersion Program or Initial Notification of Enrollment in a Secondary Program for ELs (REF-4380.1) Parents of New Enrollees: Initial Parent Notification of Language Test Results and Confirmation of Program Placement (REF-4380.1) Parents of Continuing ELs: Annual Assessment Results and Program Placement for ELs (BUL-4871 or 4872) Attach to each of these notifications the Instructional Program for English Learners Parent Brochure and the Parent Reclassification Criteria Chart. These attachments can be found on the MMED Website. Online EL Program Accountability System: The Online EL Program Accountability System found in the Principals’ Portal will become operational soon. Each principal will be able designate an individual to support with the completion of the online EL program accountabilities. Calendared monthly accountabilities are due at the end of each month. Master Plan Instructional Programs for ELs Meeting #1: Ensure to conduct the Master Plan Instructional Program Options meeting #1 for parents of ELs before the end of August. Language Appraisal Team: Ensure to establish the Language Appraisal Team (LAT) during the month of August. The core LAT consists of individuals who are knowledgeable about the District’s instructional program options and instructional services for English Learners and should minimally comprise of the Principal, EL Coordinator, Title III Coach, and LTEL Designee. The LAT Form will need to be submitted at the end of August on the Online Accountability System. LTEL Designee Identification: Ensure to identify the LTEL designee for the school site during the month of August. This individual will monitor the progress of LTELs in achieving the reclassification criteria, meet with all LTELs students and their parents at least twice a year and be a standing member of the Language Appraisal Team. The LTEL Designee Identification Form will need to be submitted at the end of August on the Online Accountability System. BUL-6266.0.
