ST ANNE’S COLLEGE GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS GUIDELINES AND APPLICATION FORMS 2015-16 COLLEGE ONLY AWARDS Details of individual Scholarships are available from our website: (http://www.st-annes.ox.ac.uk/current/graduate-scholarships) The College will offer c. 14 Graduate Scholarships to start in 2015/16 (4 of these are reserved for graduate fresher applicants, therefore there are 10 are available for current St Anne’s students). WHO CAN APPLY? Current graduate members of St Anne’s who are doctoral students are and who will have completed their “transfer of status” before the start of academic year 2015-16. There are three types of award: 1) A Graduate Research Scholarship which has a value equal to the College fee for 2015-16 2) A Graduate Development Scholarship which has a value equal to the College Fee + College accommodation at half price or the monetary equivalent for 2015-16. 3) A one off Domus award offering a Scholarship of £500 for one year only. All Graduate Scholarships are awarded on the basis of proven academic excellence, i.e. the student: Demonstrates highly satisfactory academic progress through serious and consistent engagement with his/her current academic course of study; Assumes responsibility for developing and monitoring his/her academic course of study; Assumes responsibility for his/her own learning; Demonstrates real aptitude and capacity for scholarly academic development. To this end, the references from Supervisor/Director of Studies are crucial, as are current reports on GSS. The Awarding Committee for College (usually chaired by the Vice-Principal and the Senior Tutor) does solicit the views of “experts” in College in the broad fields of the applicants (where they are not already part of the Committee). Please read the instructions on each one carefully, in particular, the additional documentation required and the submission deadline. Applicants need to solicit the academic references to support their applications; there will not be a request from College. APPLICATION FOR A GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT SCHOLARSHIP There will be a minimum of two GDS available for 2015-16. Each GDS will offer doctoral students training in university teaching which enables them to teach some undergraduates. A Graduate Development Scholar may be required to undergo training in teaching (via OLIOxford Learning Institute, and any other department training required). Each GDS will teach for up to three-hours per week as directed by the subject Fellows in College. This “teaching” may also comprise study and tutorial support for students, as well as academic administrative support for the Fellow(s) in the School. All GDS are mentored and directed by the Fellow(s) in the School. Who can apply? Current graduate members of St Anne’s who are doctoral students are and who will have completed their “transfer of status” before the start of academic year 2015-16. 1) You will require the support of your departmental/ faculty supervisor to confirm your suitability for a teaching Scholarship and that the post will not detract from your doctoral studies. 2) You will also require a supporting reference from your College Adviser. (You should talk to your College Adviser without delay in order to understand better the teaching content and organisation of your subject at undergraduate level.)
