American Research Center in Egypt to Appear in The Visionaries Series on PBS
The American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) will be profiled in the upcoming 20th season of
The Visionaries, the award-winning public television series, hosted by acclaimed actor Sam
Waterston of HBO’s The Newsroom and formerly of Law & Order.
Distributed through National
Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA), The Visionaries will begin airing on PBS
stations across the country in the summer of 2015.
On July 18th, a 7-part documentary series focused on nonprofit and public service organizations from
around the world will be released to PBS stations across the country. “This is one of the most exciting
years we have had in our long history” Executive Producer, Bill Mosher said. “We had an opportunity
to explore some of the most important issues of our time, but to do it through the eyes of local people
working in their own communities and around the world.”
“I believe that the central idea of The Visionaries -- doing what you can about huge, intractable
problems -- is an idea worth encouraging,” says actor Sam Waterston, the host of the series. ARCE
Director Gerry D. Scott shares, “In the case of the American Research Center in Egypt, this means
preserving world heritage and building up the capacity of the Egyptian site inspectors and scholars
who are responsible for its stewardship.” Selected from hundreds of applicants, the impact of ARCE is
demonstrated at visually compelling sites in Egypt representing the Pharaonic, Coptic, and Islamic
heritage.
