Custodial Cleaning Standards
Carpets
 Free of any visible dirt, soil or dust.
 Keep edges, corners, around furniture and equipment clean.
Hard Surfaces Floors
 No dust or dirt build-up.
 No wax build-up.
 Keep edges, corners, around furniture and equipment clean.
Door (including knobs, face plate & vents)
 Free of fingerprints, dust, debris and windows glass clean.
Walls (including light switches)
 Free of fingerprints, dust, debris and soil.
 No cobwebs in corners or along ceilings.
 Vents should be dusted and free of debris.
Mirrors
 No splatter, smudges, lint, dust, dirt, or fingerprints.
Windows -ENTRY DOORS only.
 No smudges, lint, dust, dirt, or fingerprints.
Window sills
 Free of dirt (refer to Personal Items located on the bottom of list)
Sinks Bathroom
 Top, front, sides, and underneath are clean.
 Faucets and spouts free of soap build-up and mineral deposits.
Toilets & Urinals
 All parts of unit clean.
Bathroom Paper / Soap Dispensers
 Inspect daily – Filled

Labs

notes located on bottom of list)
(Due to safety concerns we limit our services in labs unless special arrangements are made)
Offices
 Floor maintenance
 Trash/recycling (refer to shredder & personal trash/recycling notes located on bottom of
list)
 Limited dustings (refer to personal items located on bottom of list)
Conference/Seminar Rooms
 Floor maintenance

 Wipe tables after events and when necessary with disinfectant cleaner
Microfiber
 Red/Pink Bathroom use, Blue General use and Green sinks/counter/drinking fountain use.
 Use 4 square folding to maximize microfiber cloths.
 Mops should not be left in water when not in use. Rinse and dry properly between uses
and washings.
 Use washer and dryer available at General Services to keep these clean, never use bleach
or fabric softener.

Notes:
 Personal items will not be cleaned, also the surfaces directly around and under them. Faculty/Staff may
make special arrangements with Custodial Staff to get areas cleaned once they move personal items.
 Shredder power heads will not be removed by Custodial staff. Custodial staff will remove bagged shredded
materials once remove from shredder.
 Water dispensing units are the responsibility of the contracted vendor. Custodial staff is not responsible for
cleaning unit or replacing bottles.
 Biohazard waste and sharps are the responsibility of EH&S, and autoclave waste is the responsibility of
Lab users.
 Building users need to clean up after themselves when surfaces get soiled above and beyond everyday use.
 Building users are requested to breakdown cardboard boxes before leaving for pick up by Custodial staff.
 No personal trash or recycling should be brought on campus for disposal.
