Compulsory unit in Development, Cognition & Perception for Joint Honours students.
Students must take PY307 and PY407, and choose one further module from the remaining
selection.
PY307 Cognition 1: Attention and working memory, problem solving and reasoning, memory
encoding and retrieval, memory in the real world. 8 lectures, 1 practical class (over 2 sessions).
PY404 Psycholinguistics: The material covered includes speech production, language and
thought, short-term memory processes in language use, mental models, and neural network
modelling of linguistics processes. 10 lectures, experimental microproject sessions. PY407
Developmental Psychology: This course will include discussion of developmental issues such
as sensory and perceptuo-motor development, cognitive and linguistics development, theory of
mind and autism, moral development and memory development. 9 lectures, experimental
microproject sessions. PY505 Cognition 2: Topics in Applied Cognition including illusory
biases, skill acquisition, expertise, artifical intelligence, stress and performance, imagery,
unconscious perception, retrieval of eyewitness identification information. 9 lectures,
experimental microproject sessions. PY509 Visual Perception: The material covered includes
theoretical approaches to the study of vision, coupling perception and action, perceptual basis of
skilled action (car driving, sports skills), perception of depth, the perception of motion, spatial
and temporal sensitivity, colour vision, and visual abnormalities. 8 lectures.
