JOB SPECIFICATION
1. PREAMBLE
The Southern Adelaide Health Service (Southern Health) was established on 1 July 2004 and
brings together Flinders Medical Centre, Noarlunga Health Services, Drug and Alcohol Services
of SA and Repatriation General Hospital in July 2008. The Service also maintains a close
affiliation with other health services in the southern area.
With 330,000 people in the region, a budget of more than $350M and about 4,000 staff, Southern
Health is working towards coordination of services across the region and working cooperatively to
improve the health of the community and to reduce the demand on acute hospital services.
2. SUMMARY OF THE BROAD PURPOSE OF THE POSITION and its responsibilities/duties
In the course of fulfilling the role the Statewide Cardiology Project Nurse, Level 3, is responsible
for fostering a collaborative approach to cardiology nurse education and the generation of
outcomes guided by the Cardiology Clinical Network initiatives. Nurses at this level, use their
clinical knowledge, networks and experience to map specific cardiology workforce requirements
in collaboration with clinicians and in consideration of service delineation and metropolitan and
rural infrastructure. The Project Nurse will require a sound understanding of Statewide education
and development opportunities for all levels of cardiac nurse, and insight into the future Statewide
education and development requirements in line with the SA Health Plan and Cardiology Clinical
Network Recommendations.
The Statewide Cardiology Project Nurse will articulate a contemporary program for cardiac nurse
education to provide for the patient care needs across the continuum of care. This will be done in
collaboration with a range of education providers and clinicians in both metropolitan and country
areas.

The practice model used to enact this role includes but is not limited to:
- Providing a consistent statewide approach to cardiac education and training support to nurses
within the relevant units requiring cardiac specific knowledge to manage patient/client
outcomes.
3. REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
(to whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is
responsible, and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation)
The Education Facilitator - Statewide Cardiology Project Nurse:
 Reports to the Director, Nursing and Midwifery Education and Research, Centre for
Nursing, Midwifery Education and Research (CNMER)
 Provides reports to the Statewide Cardiology Network Steering Committee through the
Nursing representative within an agreed timeframe
 Maintains close collaborative working relationships with Cardiology Clinical leads across
the state and in particular within the south
 Maintains cooperative and productive working relationships with all relevant Education
Providers and established Advisory Committee through out South Australia
 Supports and works collaboratively with nursing staff in a variety of settings to ascertain
needs at the clinical level required for patient/client outcomes
 Establishes networks/partnerships with education centres.
4. SPECIAL CONDITIONS (such as non-metropolitan location, travel requirements, frequent overtime, etc)











Job and Person Specifications are reviewed regularly as part of the ongoing Performance
Development process.
May be required to work within other locations of the Southern Adelaide Health Service.
Some out of hours work may be required.
Support values consistent with the aims of the Region and State including honesty,
respect and integrity.
Will be required to undertake a health assessment prior to commencement.
Appointment will be subject to a satisfactory Offender History Check.
SA Health Facilities are smoke free environments

Department of Health, which regulate the collection, use, disclosure, storage and transfer
of all personal patient/client information within the Department and throughout its funded
service providers.
A current driver’s licence and a willingness to drive is essential
Some intrastate travel will be required

5. STATEMENT OF KEY OUTCOMES AND ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES

5.1 Ensures the provision of high quality continuing nursing education services aimed at
improving nursing staff knowledge, commitment and nursing practice by:
 Scoping the educational availability for nurse health care providers across the southern
regions and rural sites
 Scoping the educational requirements for nurses to provide best practice care specific to
site and in line with the SA Health Plan service delineations
 Collaborating with internal and external providers to articulate a contemporary
collaborative cardiac program for nurses across the state

Providing and/or coordinating educational support within the organisation’s professional
practice, education and administrative frameworks
Contributing to workforce redesign to meet the patient/client outcomes in the cardiology
setting
Undertaking and/or overseeing teaching sessions to designated nursing populations
Undertaking and/or overseeing assessment processes for designated nursing populations
Collaborating with Stakeholders inclusive of tertiary, VET and to co-ordinate teaching and
learning processes and achieve planned outcomes across the state
Contributing to the promulgation of information regarding current developments in nursing.

Contribute to the review and management of education/training programs to ensure the
achievement of outcome standards and key performance indicators

Provide education support for change processes, risk management practices and service
improvement activities.

Educational/Vocational Qualifications

Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of South Australia and holds a current
annual practicing certificate.

Experience




Registered Nurse with at least 3 years post registration experience or currently classified as a
Clinical Nurse.

Knowledge






Understanding of the requirements of the Nurses and Midwives Act 2008, the Australian
Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) National Competencies for the Registered and
Enrolled Nurse and Midwife in Recommended Domains and the ANMC Code of Professional
Conduct for Nurses/Midwifes in Australia (2003) and the Commissioner for Public
Employment Code of Conduct for Public Employees.
Understanding of alternative methods and techniques in delivering education
Knowledge of contemporary professional nursing health care issues.
Sound knowledge of Occupational Health, Safety & Welfare principles and procedures
