Proceedings of Archival Conference in Press
I am pleased to inform you that the editorial work on the Proceedings of our recent
highly successful "Working Conference on Czech and Slovak American Archival
Materials and their Preservation", held at the Czech and Slovak Embassies, Washington
DC in November 2003, has been completed and the entire manuscript is now in the
hands of the publishing house, "Prazska edice" in Prague.
It comprises of contributions from principal repositories of Czech and Slovak materials
in the US and in the Czech and the Slovak Republics, including government
and university-based repositories, public libraries and private institutions. Included are
also papers from historians and other archival users, and comments made by discussion
panelists regarding the various archival problems and their solutions.
As you will note from the attached Table of Contents, it is an impressive piece of work
which should not be missing in major repositories and libraries interested in the subject.
It should also be of great interest and use to various ethnic organizations and
individuals that have archival materials in their possessions. The bottom line of the
conference was the unanimous agreement to launch a concerted effort leading to the
preservation of archival materials bearing on Czech and Slovak presence in America
and on the relations between America and Czechoslovakia and its successor states. This
is the massage of the Proceedings which contains important information about the
existing archival repositories and also provides useful advice where the archival
materials can be deposited and how they should be maintained.
According to the publisher, David Kraft, the volume will be available in mid March,
will cost $9 plus postage and can be ordered from the following address: Prazska
edice,Senovazne nam.20,Praha 1,Czech Republic; chexpo@chexpo.cz
You ought to reserve your copy now before the copies run out.
