Job Description Job Title : Cyclopark Coach Reports to : Operations manager ( events) Function : Development and delivery Direct Reports : Other casual coaching staff Job Holder : tbc Date Effective : June 2013 Job Purpose To plan, deliver, coordinate and evaluate a programme of high quality, professional coaching activities that are progressive and reflective of the needs of the community and the wider business development needs of Cyclopark. The coaching programme should link schools, communities, local businesses and club provision and aim to provide increased opportunities to attract and retain people in cycling. Responsibilities 1. Work closely with the Operations Manager (events) and liaise with the British Cycling Regional Development Manager to establish and maintain relationships with the Cyclopark, Regional Board, club officials, coaches and other volunteers working in Cycling Clubs, local schools and the wider community 2. Deliver cycling coaching opportunities at a local level with a focus on the FUNdamentals and Learning to Train stages of BMX and other cycling disciplines. 3. Plan, deliver and evaluate coaching programmes ensuring a high quality, enjoyable coaching experience centred on the needs of the wider community. 4. Coach Go-Ride Community Clubs and local schools at Cyclopark, increasing the number of accessible coaching activities for young people and the wider community 5. Assist in identifying talented people and encourage further development via British Cycling’s Olympic Talent Team Programme. 6. Take positive steps to identify and overcome barriers to participation amongst people from all ages and abilities from disadvantaged backgrounds, prioritising access and inclusion. 7. Effectively supervise, and co-ordinate other coaches providing coached sessions at Cyclopark mentor and support club officials, coaches and volunteers where appropriate. 8. Develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with all partners and community organisations. 9. Develop Cyclopark as a centre of training and development as ‘Coach Academy’ in partnership with BC and other relevant NGBs facilitating and delivering coach education and other training courses 10. Support the implementation of a continuing professional development programme for coaches, club officials and volunteers. 11. Carry out administrative duties, including collation of participation data for use in report writing. 12. Provide information in a timely manner, in the required format, to facilitate the collation of management information. 13. Attend meetings with the Cyclopark Officers, Regional Board, clubs, schools and other key partners as and when necessary. 14. Maintain current knowledge of British Cycling programmes, policies and practices. 15. Undertake continuing professional development relevant to the post and personal training needs supporting future career advancement. 16. Be a positive role model, creating a challenging and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage young people to participate in cycling. 17. Provide support to coaches throughout the coach education process. 18. Assess coaches through the coach education system to recognised standards. 19. Communicate regularly with British Cycling members and potential members. 20. Promote British Cycling products and services to maximise uptake and income. Ref. Nature and Scope of Position The post holder will work as part of a team and make a positive contribution to the achievements of team objectives. The post holder will collaborate with other staff to develop policy and strategy via staff meetings and working groups. Continuing Professional Development Maintain current knowledge of British Cycling programmes, policies and practices. Maintain professional coaching knowledge and qualifications. Maintain an awareness of cycling products and services. Additional Information As the post involves working with children and young people, the post holder will be required to undergo an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau check. This post requires the post holder to regularly carry out work during evening and weekend periods. The post holder will be required to reside within easy access of Cyclopark, or be willing to relocate as appropriate. The post holder will be based at Cyclopark but will be required to travel within the region to promote Cyclopark facilities and British Cycling programmes. The post holder will need access to their own transport. Person Specification Requirements Qualifications / Training Knowledge & Experience Skills Other Qualities Ref. JDCycloparkAug12 Essential Good education background with a minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent. A current UKCC Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Cycling qualification (equivalent or above), or commitment to achieve this within 6 months of the start date for the post. Relevant knowledge and experience of sports development, including club and coach development. Experience of working with the voluntary and statutory sectors and community groups. A minimum of 3 years experience of sports coaching; establishing, delivering and co-ordinating coaching programmes for young people with a demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate and encourage them through sport, and to adapt sessions appropriately dependent on the needs of young people. Experience of coaching in a wide range of environments including schools, clubs and community settings. Experience of tutoring/facilitation of club development/coaching workshops. Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrating an ability to communicate with, and relate to, a wide range of people and organisations. Excellent planning and organisational skills. Must hold a current, full driving licence (which permits the holder to drive in the UK). Desirable A degree in Coaching, PE, Sports Science or equivalent subject. Knowledge of Long Term Athlete Development and in particular the FUNdamentals and Learning to Train stages. Good knowledge of the sport as a participant, coach, volunteer or official.
