Innsbruck Tourismus Press Release Climate neutral holidays at Familien-Landhotel Stern Latest innovation: Free charge point for electric cars The Familien-Landhotel Stern’s formula for success is really quite simple: Take a fifth generation of hoteliers and sprinkle in five hundred years of tradition. Add a unique location in one of the Tyrol’s most stunning yet virtually unspoilt regions. Combine this with a generous dose of commitment and creativity – and you get the special holiday feeling for which ‘The Stern’ is so well known. Since 2005, René Föger and his team are at the helm of this traditional family hotel at Sonnenplateau Mieming. Here the declared goal is to mitigate the impact of global environmental change on future generations. Far from all hollow clichés with a green-tinged image boost, the concept of climate protection, resource conservation and social progress is very much alive. Its deep-rooted sustainability efforts won the Familien-Landhotel Stern in 2012 the prestigious Trigos accolade, a coveted distinction awarded by the Tyrolean provincial government for outstanding corporate social responsibility. In order to contribute sustainably to climate protection, the Stern team has developed a range of strategies, in line with their slogan ’I take care of you, you take care of me’. This environment-conscious approach is producing measurable results: Since the Stern, Austria’s third carbon neutral hotel, began to implement its climate-friendly strategy back in 2011, CO2 emissions are down by 30% - in just three years! This implies that the Familien-Landhotel Stern offers its guests a largely climate neutral holiday. CO2 emission that can’t be saved is compensated by supporting two projects fostering the development of regional and global climate protection. These carbon-offset programmes include sustainable forest management in southern Vietnam and reforestation of the meadow orchards at Sonnenplateau Mieming, benefitting the Stern’s immediate surroundings in Obsteig. Staying at ‘the Stern’, you get ample opportunity to shed quite a few pounds of CO2 while relaxing in utter comfort. At meal times, you’ll sample the hotel’s down-to-earth, authentic cuisine based on delicious old recipes and prepared with locally sourced, natural ingredients. Never done any scrumping before? Then it’s high time to go Innsbruck Tourismus Silvana M. Back at the hotel, the chefs will be delighted to convert your delicious finds into creative, tasty treats. And, of course, everybody is more than welcome to lend a helping hand with the above mentioned reforestation project, working side-by-side with committed locals. ‘HAY.snoring’ does not only sound intriguing – it is also romantic and a fun summer holiday experience for all the family: Snuggled up in a bed of hay, you spend the night in the arms of mother nature, surrounded by larch tree meadows. Similarly ’earthy’ holiday adventures are also available during winter, such as exploring the pleasures of snow mountaineering under the caring guidance of your host and certified local ski guides. The fact that hotel owner René Föger and his team don’t intend to rest on their laurels is made quite clear by the most recent amenities and services on offer: Two brand new larch wood suites provide natural living in spacious surroundings, enhanced by the soothing scent of wood and fabulous views of the Mieming mountain range. All bathrooms are stocked with organic and climate neutral Alpenlarch cosmetics, the hotel’s exclusive, locally produced skincare line. The hotel’s most remarkable recent innovation, however, is not only eco-friendly and future-oriented, but also unprecedented in the Austrian hospitality industry: All guests staying at the Familien-Landhotel Stern are welcome to recharge their electric cars for free at an on-site express charging station which, equipped with a state-of-the art direct-current charger, supports all plug types. Getting around on two wheels is also made easy as e-bikes are available throughout the region at reduced rental rates. The Stern is also planning to put these effort-saving means of transport at the disposal of its guest.in the not-too-far future. To top up personal energy levels, simply head to the roof terrace to fuel up at the hotel’s newest ‘power place’. Here you are able to wind down and relax in a tranquil and inspiring setting, enjoy a cool drink, lounge on a comfy sunbed and absorb the fabulous views of verdant meadows and majestic mountains.
