Discovery Hall 207 Class Time: Spring term. Weekly lectures to spring break. Spring break Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm BRH Rm 363. Prerequisites: Biol 484 or 682 or equivalent, or permission of instructor. This 2 credit lecture/ laboratory course is designed to introduce the student to many of the techniques essential to the study of eukaryotic cell biology through tissue/cell culture techniques. The student will be introduced to primary tissue culture and tissue culture applications such as toxicity testing, and gene delivery. Students will also be introduced to histological, immunological, and fluorescent microscopy and forensic PCR. Course Requirements: Students are required to attend lectures prior to spring break, and to attend laboratory sessions each day of spring break. Students will complete each of the tasks as designed keeping an accurate notebook of the week’s experiments and results. Students will be graded on their laboratory notebook, results presentation, and a final exam given one week post the course completion. Homework: Student are required to keep and accurate daily notebook and prepare a complete report of the week’s work to be completed and submitted one week post the completion of the course. Students must come prepared for class.
