A new health centre for Nursery Lane
and Moorcroft patients
Tell us your views!
This leaflet is for people who are registered patients at the GP practices at Nursery
Lane LS17 7AQ and Moorcroft Surgery, King Lane, LS17 7AN, and any other
interested parties.
The GP surgeries are proposing to transfer their services from their existing premises
to a new, shared, purpose-built health centre on King Lane, LS17.
Both practices are very keen to communicate with you about their proposals to
relocate their services and encourage you to have your say. This could include
services and/or facilities you would like to be able to use at the new health centre.
Please take this opportunity to tell us your views. We have arranged two drop-in
sessions, one at each of the surgeries, where you can talk to staff from both
practices about the proposals.
These will take place on:
Tuesday 14th October 2014 6.00-7.30pm at Nursery Lane Surgery and
Tuesday 21st October 2014 6.30-8.00pm at Moorcroft Surgery.
Alternatively you can email us at moorcroftsurgery@nhs.net
We will consider all of your views and comments to help us make decisions about
how we should develop our plans where this is possible.
Thank you for your input and support.

New health centre premises: your questions answered
What proposals are we asking you to think about?
The doctors at The Surgery at Nursery Lane and Moorcroft Surgery, would
like to build a new health centre to accommodate both their separate
practices.
Will I be able to stay with my GP?
All patients who are registered with the practices will be able to stay with their
own practice. All of the doctors and nurses employed by the practices will
continue to work at the new health centre.
Why can’t the surgeries stay where they are?
The doctors and their staff would like to improve services for patients. To do
this, both surgeries need larger premises to meet both clinical requirements
and patient needs. The existing sites cannot be further developed to meet the
modern standards for GP surgeries. Moving both practices into purpose-built
premises means more patients can benefit from the improved facilities.
Where is the new site?
The proposed site will be on King Lane as shown below, near the entrance to
Moor Allerton shopping centre where there is currently a redundant bus
turning–circle.
Why do the practices want to move?
Moorcroft practice is based in a converted bungalow which was originally
designed to accommodate a list size of 1300. The present list stands at 5,950.
The Nursery Lane practice is also a converted house. Over the last 10 years
the list size has grown from 6,589 to the present day 8,691.
The present surgeries are becoming unsuitable for providing care for patients
because:

the buildings cannot be extended or changed significantly to improve
the environment or facilities;

they have insufficient parking facilities;

they have limited space resulting in inadequate reception,
administration and waiting areas and limiting the services that can be
offered and maintained; and

they have poor access for people with disabilities and wheelchairs,
prams and pushchairs.
The doctors in both practices would like to have a new, purpose-built health
centre which is modern, spacious and accessible so that they can deliver an
improved service to their patients.
What will be the benefits for patients?
A new health centre will offer a significantly better environment than the
practices have right now. We will be able to offer all of the services currently
available plus:
 state-of-the-art treatment facilities;
 improved access for all;
 improved privacy and dignity arrangements;
 more welcoming, spacious surroundings;
 ample parking;
 potential for other providers of health services to use the building
Who is funding the development?
The third party developers will fund most costs associated with the building
and the GP practices will lease it when it is completed. The NHS in Leeds
commissions and funds all health services for people living in Leeds and
reimburses practices with agreed levels of rent and rates.
Do I have to remain registered with my current practice?
Both GP practices want all our patients to stay with us and receive their
healthcare in new, spacious surroundings. If you do prefer to move we will
help you to register with a new practice.
When will the health centre be ready?
It is hoped that the new health centre will be completed around September
2015. The developer is currently applying for planning permission so it is still
in the very early stages at present.
Will there be a Pharmacy on site?
There will be a Pharmacy in the building. The provider of services for this has
not yet been decided as it is currently out to tender. Use of the Pharmacy will
be optional and patients will continue to be able to use whichever Pharmacy
they prefer.
Where can I get more information?
We will keep you informed of any changes and developments with updates on
our surgery websites and notice boards.
