The methods are studied in terms of their underlying linguistic and psychological backgrounds (what is language, its functions, and how it is learnt), the types of language syllabi they use, the language skills they focus on, and the class procedures they adopt to implement their objectives. The historical development of the teaching methods is also dealt with in the course.
