SESSION PROPOSAL
League of Local Historical Societies & Museums Annual Meeting

We are currently soliciting session proposals for the 2015 LLHSM Annual Meeting. This
meeting is the largest yearly gathering of local history and museum professionals in the state. It
is a chance to network and learn with colleagues in a supportive environment. The working
theme for this year is “The Basics and Beyond.” Whether a large or small organization, it is
important to work on the core tenets of being a community organization. Working with purpose
and passion organizations can then utilize a good foundation as a springboard to growth and
success.
Sessions take place in the afternoon, within two 75 minute blocks (1:15-2:30pm and 2:454:00pm). Traditional session formats (i.e.- presentations, panels, roundtable/guided discussion)
as well as alternative session arrangements (Pecha Kucha, “speed” networking/discussion,
mini-workshops, etc.) will be considered. We would also be interested in 2-part sessions that
cover the whole afternoon, or sessions that “split” an individual session block.
The majority of attendees are from small, often all-volunteer organizations. There is a wide range
of experience and education within the group related to historical societies & museums. In
general, sessions that emphasize practical aspects of museum and history work are prioritized
over purely theoretical.
Sessions that cover all aspects of museum, historical and non-profit work would be applicable to
this audience. Including but not limited to: Collections, Education, Board, Volunteers,
Exhibitions, Public Programs, Preservation, Technology, etc.
Session presenters receive free registration to the meeting.
