Pre-Conference Sessions 2013 Saturday, September 28th Difficult Airway Course –EMS (2 day course) Michael Keller, Camden Education Dennis Taylor, PhD, Camden Education September 28th and 29th 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Auditorium II The Difficult Airway Course – EMS is regarded as a premier educational program in the area of airway management. This two-day program in EMS airway management will equip you to more effectively meet the challenge of advanced airway management in the field. It is an immersion style program, emphasizing basic and advanced airway anatomy and physiology, basic and advanced airway management techniques and proven techniques to identifying airways that pose predictable management challenges. Curriculum includes review and discussion of pharmacologic agents used to attenuate normal physiological response to airway management, including the latest evidence based science toward rapid sequence intubation using sedatives and paralytics. Additionally, this course provides a hands-on surgical airway lab utilizing pig trachea for landmark identification of similar human anatomy and practical sessions of actual surgical techniques to gain airway access through the cricothyroid membrane. There is extensive lab practice on many different techniques and approaches to airway management through use of endotracheal tubes, extraglottic airway devices, video laryngoscopy and the latest tools to manage the airways in the prehospital environment. The course concludes with small group “Code Airway” sessions which challenge participants to make proper decisions using the knowledge they have gained. *OEMS takes no role or responsibility in the registration process of this course.
