provided through Black Board and needs to be completed two weeks before program

REGISTRATION FEE: $120.00; Cost for EKU Students Only: $70.00 (includes
$35.00 for instruction and $35.00 for special supply fee). Limited space for Nurse
Practitioners providing care in clinic settings.
Includes contact hours for continuing nursing education, instruction, educational
materials and supplies. Note: Didactic portion will be provided through Black Board
and needs to be completed two weeks before program to receive maximum learning
benefit. The skills portion will be offered as a morning or afternoon session. You
must specify morning or afternoon session-once class capacity is filled for
session, you will only have the option of enrolling in remaining session. *Smaller
class size required to accommodate students’ needs.
TARGET AUDIENCE: This program is designed for Nurse Practitioner Students who
are/will be working in primary care, urgent treatment settings, or in Emergency
Departments where they are expected to manage wounds and traumatic injuries.
LEARNING GOAL (Purpose): This program is designed to provide the background
for a hands on experience in the treatment and management of wounds and
traumatic injuries.
FACULTY/PRESENTERS:
Kathy Halcomb, EdD, APRN, FNP is an associate professor for the Department of
Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing at Eastern Kentucky University. She has
previously taught for the Dept. of Associate Degree Nursing and was the recipient of
the “Outstanding Teaching Award” at EKU. In addition to her teaching
responsibilities, Dr. Halcomb practices in a Primary Care Clinic in McKee.
Brooke Bentley, PhD, MSN, BSN, is an associate professor for the Department of
Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing at Eastern Kentucky University.

OBJECTIVES:
1. Discuss principles of wound healing and tissue repair.
2. Review indications for wound closure based on history and physical exam
findings.
3. Select appropriate local anesthesia and suture material for a given wound.
4. Discuss numerous wound closure techniques.
5. Demonstrate appropriate wound closure techniques for a given wound based on
patient history and physical findings.

Attendance Requirement: Must review didactic portion of program via Black
Board site prior to this training, stay for entire session and complete a written
evaluation to be awarded contact hours.
Cancellation Policy: A participant who wishes to cancel registration must notify
the Division of Continuing Education and Development office at least three
working days prior to the workshop date in order to receive a refund minus
a $10 processing fee. After that date a substitute may be sent, but no refund.
If an offering is cancelled by EKU, the registration fee will be refunded in full.
