Student Academic Appeal Process Procedure Following Dismissal

Grand Valley State University Academic Review Policy

Probation:

Freshman – GPA is 1.501 to 1.999

Sophomore – GPA is 1.801 to 1.999

No probation status for junior or senior

Jeopardy of Dismissal: (see Dismissal also)

Freshman – GPA is 1.500 or lower

Sophomore – GPA is 1.800 or lower

Junior and senior – GPA is 1.999 or lower

Dismissal:

The Jeopardy of Dismissal Student has one semester to raise his/her cumulative GPA above the dismissal level or to achieve a 2.50 current GPA (which is above a C+ average) for the semester in Jeopardy of Dismissal.

Important! Grades for courses taken during spring/summer while in Jeopardy of Dismissal will count towards GPA.

Readmission after Dismissal:

Dismissed students may apply for readmission after one full calendar year

 If readmitted, status will be “Jeopardy of Dismissal” as mentioned above

Due Process through Appeal:

If a student believes that his or her status is in error, the appeal may be submitted immediately using the process previously outlined

Grade Values, Quality Points and GPA Notice where 2.5 GPA falls

A = 4.0 A- = 3.7 B+ = 3.3 B = 3.0 B- = 2.7 C+ = 2.3

C = 2.0 C- = 1.7
