Copyright © Macmillan Publishers Limited 2010. 4 Hot Spot 1 Teacher’s notes for using search engines and links: Part 1 Exercise 1: Students click and drag the words on the right to the words on the left. When they have finished, they click on ‘Check’. They are told if their answers are right or wrong, and are given a percentage score, but are not shown the correct answers if they make a mistake. They can try the game again by clicking on the ‘OK’ key under their score. Part 2 Exercise 1: Entering the website address immediately brings up a short, introductory video (a newsreader asking a weather reporter about the weather around the world). Students then click on ‘Go’ to listen to the weather report (the text can be turned off by clicking on the ‘Text on / off’ key). The countries being described are briefly highlighted on the world map as each one is mentioned. Students click and drag the weather symbols to the flags / country names on the right. If their answers are correct, the weather symbols stay in the box; if they are wrong, the symbols drop back to the bottom of the page. They can play the recording as many times as they like by clicking on ‘Play sound’, and have as long as they like after the recording to drag the symbols to their correct places. Part 3 Exercise 1: There are three matching games. Students work through these by clicking on each game in turn (clicking on the ‘back’ key on their browser after each game will take them back to the homepage so they can try the next game). They choose their answers for each picture from the drop-down lists. Clicking on the ‘Check it out!’ key for each game shows which answers are right and which are wrong. Clicking on the ‘See more information’ key under the answers brings up the correct answers and gives information about the clothes.
