P OSITION S UMMARY

The Registered Nurse Division 2 (RN Div 2) works under the direction and supervision of the

Registered Nurse Division 1 (RN Div 1). The Registered Nurse Division 2 works within their scope of practice to provide person centered care in an aged care residential setting.

E DUCATION /E XPERIENCE

To function efficiently in this role the RN Div 2 should have a sound understanding of holistic care and the ability to work in a home like environment within a multidisciplinary team.

R EQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to be registered as a Division 2 Registered Nurse with the Nurses Board of Victoria.

Registered Nurses Division 2 are required to be available to be rostered on all shifts, morning, afternoon and night duty, seven days a week.

A police record check is compulsory for all applicants on commencement and three yearly thereafter.

P OSITION R ESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Management

 Ability to work under the direction and supervision of the RN Div 1 within the accepted scope of practice for RN Div 2 Nurses.

 Participates as an integral member of the health team at team meeting

 A commitment to continuous improvement activities and the provision of best practice in a residential Aged Care

 Assists in the orientation of new staff

Health and Personal Care

 Under supervision (Direct or Indirect) of a RN Div 1 and using the individualized care plans, provides direct care to residents

 Stays mindful that care is being provided in an environment that is the residents home

 Participates in the nursing assessment of residents.

 Consults with the RN Div 1 when the residents’ general health or personal circumstances indicate the need for immediate reassessment.

 Assists in the development of the nursing care plan in consultation with RN Div 1.

 Includes the resident and their family in planning care.

 Keeps accurate records of care delivered and resident’s response to care.

 Notifies RN Div 1 when residents relatives/significant others, require information regarding treatment and care

 Provides a handover to the Div 1 nurse

 Administer medications via a “Dose Administration Aid” system in accordance with Aged Services

Medication Administration Policy (Non Endorsed Registered Nurse Division 2)

 Administer medications to residents as delegated by the Registered Nurse Division 1 in accordance with Aged Services Medication Administration Policy, (Registered Nurse Division 2 – Endorsed to

Administer medications)

 To support and assist residents to maximise their independence

 To ensure that private, personal or sensitive information of the residents remains confidential and residents dignity is respected at all times

 To promote and encourage resident participation in activities of interest

 To assist residents and their families to adjust to residential care

 To value and foster residents individual interests, customs, beliefs, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

 To encourage residents to participate in decision making process related to their care and environment.

Physical Environment and Safe Systems

 Actively working towards maintaining a safe working environment and adhering to Occupational Health and Safety policy and procedures.

 Has knowledge of and correctly adopts the infection control minimization principles

 Is aware of correct food handling policy and procedure.

P ERFORMANCE I NDICATORS

 Demonstrates ability to participate as an integral member of the health team in team meeting.

 Effective communications with other health professionals that facilitate and enhance resident care

 Shows evidence of professional self development and education

 Identifies educational and training needs that impact on the care of the residents

 Successfully completes annual competency assessments in basic life support, fire and safety and manual handling, medication administration (Registered Nurse Division 2 - Endorsed to Administer

Medications).

ERFORMANCE APPRAISAL

The RN Div 2 will participate in a performance appraisal “My Work Plan” three months after appointment and thereafter as agreed to at each progress meetings
