X-MEN Pt. 1 of 3 Beastly Nightmare Setting: The Beast is at work in his lab. The Beast. Perhaps he is the most hideous child of the atom. However, Henry McCoy has always been one of the greatest minds in the galaxy. Here, we find him at work in his laboratory, deep within the Mutant Academy founded by Professor Charles Xavier and now headed by the self-proclaimed leader of the X-Men, Scott Summers. Xavier was perhaps the Beast's most loved mentor. McCoy always admired the calm, pacifist nature of Professor X. This is understandable, seeing as though the Beast has always been in the shadows of the XMen's heritage. Sure, he had participated in his share of epic battles, but he remained a quiet and calm asset to the team. He was rarely seen in the field, but often seen spending long hours developing new weaponry and technology for the upcoming generation of X-Men. Every member of the X-Men, that is, everyone who had been around long enough, knew that the Beast was a formidable foe in a fight. If he were ever to turn to the Brotherhood or any other organization harmful to the cause of peaceful coexistence between humans and mutants, he could pose a significant threat. Uh-oh. It seems as if our hairy blue friend has made a mistake with the adjustments of some of his equipment... *SSSHHHKKKLLLBBLLOOMMM!!!* The lab explodes. Setting: Scott Summers sits at his desk, with the title DEAN engraved in the front. He has just received a call to his office from Sage. Scott Summers, the Cyclops, sits at his desk sifting through paperwork, oblivious to what has just happened. Until, he receives a call from Sage, who is in Cerebro at the time... Summers: "Cyclops." "An explosion? Where? Lab 8D? Was anyone hurt? Good. Where is the Beast? Well keep looking, but I'm sure he wasn't down there." "You what? You feel him? Alive? Good. Send the Juggernaut and Bishop down there to sort through the mess." Summers leans back in his chair, hoping that this won't take long to clean up and that the damage isn't severe. However, the damage hasn't yet begun... Setting: Some of the X-Men sit around a table eating dinner. Logan, Scott Summers, Cain Marko, Remy LeBeau, Kurt Wagner, Ororo Munroe, and Emma Frost sit around a table in one of the mansion's dining rooms. Logan: "Hey Kurt, pass the rolls. 'Ro, mind handing me a leg?" Storm shoots a playful gaze at Logan. Scott: "How did the clean-up go at the lab today, Cain?" Cain: "Everything's taken care of, but we still haven't located the Beast, and Sage hasn't been able to pick him up, either." Scott: "Emma, I want you to assemble a small team to-" Remy: "Hey, include Rogue and I, mon ami." Logan: "Scott, this isn't a good idea." Scott: "Logan, you never like my ideas." Logan: "I can smell him... I can track him... if he's in trouble, I'll be able to get there to his location the old-fashioned way while telepaths are trying to do things the hard way." The intercom in the room comes on... *BEEP!* Intercom: “X-Men, you might want to turn on the news.” Scott: “Thank you, Sage.” The intercom shuts off... *BEEP!* Scott turns on the TV TV: Six people were killed today by a large, blue mutant during a protest against mutant rights. Local and federal police were able to scare the mutant off after several minutes of gunfire. The mutant's whereabouts are now unknown... Logan stands up, ejecting claws Logan: “Like I said Scott, it's a bad idea, we've got a traitor, and this can't be handled in the way you want to handle it... it takes a beast to hunt down a Beast.” Pt. 2 of 3 Beastly Nightmare pt. II Setting: Wooded area. In the woods outside of the town most recently rampaged by the Beast, Wolverine tracks his new enemy. He finds the Beast hanging upside-down from a tree branch... Wolvie: "Beast! What are you doing? What is going on?" Beast: "Wolverine? Out of all of the X-Men, they sent YOU to deal with me?" Wolvie: "You betta believe it, bub!" Beast drops from the tree, taking up an attack stance Wolvie: "Oh, I'm gonna enjoy this. I love shreddin' up traitors!" Beast leaps at Wolverine, tackling him, as Wolverine's claws penetrate into the Beast's chest. Wolvie: "You could've killed someone by sabotaging that lab! What were you trying to hide? What was in the lab?" Wolverine throws the Beast off of him Beast: "The lab... it wasn't intentional... it was a mistake... Beast grabs his head ARGGGHHHHH!" Beast runs and jumps onto a cliff, throwing boulders down as he climbs up, causing a rock slide that covers Wolverine in rubble Before Wolverine is covered in rocks, he looks into Beast's eyes, noticing that there is something different about them Setting: Lab 8D, Mutant Academy Storm: "I don't think this was sabotage. It looks as though there was some faulty electronics in this equipment and that it couldn't handle the temperatures induced upon it." Cyclops: "Well, then why has Beast changed sides? And why can't we locate him telepathically?" Storm: "I don't know that yet... but, She stoops down and scoops up some gel in a test tube after I test this, we may know the answer." Cyclops: "News reports say that nine more civilians have been killed by the blue mutant. Why hasn't Wolverine stopped him yet?" Sage: "I've lost contact with Wolverine through Cerebro. His life-force is still intact, but it has faded beyond location or telepathic communication." Cyclops: "Great... I'll be in my office. Send a team for to look for Wolverine and another to stop Beast!" Setting: Dean's Office Cyclops receives a video-conference on his computer Cyclops: “H-h-hello.” Voice: “Why haven't you returned my calls?” Cyclops: “We're busy with our own problems right now. I've got to cover this mess up; it's gotten out of hand.” Voice: “You had better hurry; I'm not one who likes to be kept waiting.” Pt. 3 of 3 Beastly Nightmare pt. III Setting: Wolverine's pile of boulders. Underneath that pile of boulders lies one faithful X-Man. Since Professor X assembled his secondgeneration team to rescue the original X-Men, Wolverine has been around almost continuously. The constant search for answers drives the Wolverine. His overconfidence comes from many victorious battles. Logan, a Canadian, a Samurai, a subject of the Weapon X project, an ex-CIA member, a Canadian operative… but what was he really? Really, he was the Wolverine. An X-Man. He couldn't believe it had happened, and would never admit to it, but he was starting to believe in this cause that the X-Men fought for. Maybe Chuck was right... ...Either way, people are in trouble as long as the Beast, that traitor, is on the loose. That's all the motivation that Wolverine needs... ...to get free! Wolverine bursts from the rocks Nightcrawler flashes in beside of Wolverine. Wolverine's outstanding senses are flaring, and he actually senses that something is about to happen in the empty space that Nightcrawler phases into seconds before it happens. Wolverine's claws are extended to this spot instantly, and Nightcrawler phases in with Wolverine's claws inside him. Nightcrawler: "Ack!" *SHWING!* Wolvie retracts his claws, and holds Nightcrawler up from falling Wolverine: "Kurt, man, I'm sorry." Voice: "I'll get him back to the academy. Our mission was only to make sure that you were okay, Logan." Archangel swoops in and cradles Nightcrawler Wolverine: "You gonna be okay, right, Kurt?" Nightcrawler: "Yes, of course, I don't think you got anything vital, my brother." Archangel: "He'll be fine, I'll get him attention. You find Beast. There's a team en route to his location." Wolverine: "Right." Setting: Wolverine finds the Beast, who is holding a man up with his large hands and grinning and drooling. Wolverine: "Put him down, Henry." Beast drops the man Beast: "Ah, yes, it WILL be more fun to kill you instead." Wolverine: "Why, bub? You've been with the X-Men since the start. Why change your mind now? Why blow up part of the academy? Why go on a killing spree against the people we've fought so hard to live peacefully with?" Beast: "Logan, listen to me--argghhh!" The Beast holds his head for a second, then in the next frame, leaps at Wolverine, still battle-scarred from their last encounter The Beast and Wolverine fight, as Beast pulls Wolverine's arms behind him, dislocating them, and he holds Wolverine up off the ground, then jumps and kicks Wolverine a few feet away Wolverine lands on his face, then gets up and rolls his shoulders, one at a time, popping his arms back in their sockets. Wolverine charges at Beast, wrestling him to the ground, claws to his throat Voice: "Wolverine, don't, shugah!" Wolverine: "Rogue?" Rogue: "Here, inject him with this!" Rogue throws Wolverine a syringe, which he looks puzzled at, then injects the Beast with The Beast stops struggling, and his eyes change Beast: "X-Men, thank you. Oh my... my... I'm so sorry..." Rogue: "It's okay, Beast, we tested the substance in your lab. We know the equipment was faulty and that when it exploded, you were covered in the substance." Beast: "Yes, that substance, in that form, caused me to become a prisoner of myself. I could at times get a few words out, and I knew what was going on the whole time, but I could not control myself." Wolverine: "Why would you have such a thing? It's too dangerous... Henry, look at all the people you've killed, bub." Beast: "I'm so..." He cries Wolverine: "Answer the question, Beast." Rogue: "Log-" Wolverine's raised hand silences her Beast: "What do you mean? Scott had me running tests, he acquired the substance from somewhere else." Setting: Scott Summers sits at his desk, and receives another video conference call. Summers: "Yes, by now they have administered the counter drug." "Yes, I KNOW that could present a problem, but they're MY X-Men, I can handle them." "Yes, as you wish, Dr. X." Setting: A beach, somewhere, the sun is setting and Henry McCoy, a.k.a. the Beast, sits on the beach, head between his knees. ---END
