Interims and Extra-Curricular Activities
The interim period closes on December 9th with the reports being issued on December 14th.
As we have done for the past 7 years, students with 2 or more Failing grades on their interim will not be able to
attend our evening extra curricular events (i.e.- sporting events). Please check powerschool to make sure that they
do not fall in this category. Your child also has access to their powerschool account. Obviously, we want students
to do well for reasons beyond extra- curricular activities but this is an immediate consequence to failing grades
that they will receive.
The 29th Annual Kent County High School Planetarium Christmas Program
THE BEST OF CHRISTMAS PAST will be presented free of charge to the public at 7:00 pm on Thursday
December 17th, 2015, and continuing at the same time each night on Friday December 18th, Monday December
21st, and Tuesday December 22nd. These programs have been presented each year since 1987, and this year
some of the best parts of these past shows have been selected and re-worked into a brand new show. The shows
reflect the work of WKHS-FM 90.7; the high school’s radio station, and its students. Refreshments will be
available.

College Applications
Many four-year college applications are due before winter break. Seniors, make sure you are paying
attention to and keeping up with deadlines. Your college applications to many four-year
colleges/universities should be submitted by the time you go home for winter break. If you need help,
please make an appointment with your guidance counselor. Please give those you ask to write your
letters of recommendation about a week before you need it.
Many of our seniors are getting acceptances for their colleges next fall. Make sure that you stop by
Guidance to report your good news along with the amount of scholarship monies you have been offered.
We need the scholarship information for any school that your child receives an acceptance, not just the
college they will choose to attend. We like to report the total amount our graduates receive during
graduation. Last year’s graduates earned over $10 million collectively!
Scholarships
Mrs. Whiting has a senior email list that has all scholarships listed. I will also do my best to attach any
updated versions to this newsletter too. A few deadlines are before winter break but most are after
winter break.
Universal Athletic Booster
Our athletic teams are uniting under a single, universal booster club. We will be meeting on January 4th at
6:30pm in the Media Center. In order for each team to be able to reap the benefits of the unified efforts, coaches
need to attend. Any parent with a student athlete is invited and we welcome students to participate as non-voting
members.
Holiday Shopping
Amazon Smile
Instead of using Amazon.com for your holiday gifts, try http://smile.amazon.com. It is the same as Amazon.com
but your will be supporting KCHS PTSA. If you start with http://smile.amazon.com, Amazon will donate 5% of
the price to KCHS PTSA.
The PTSA is working hard to support senior scholarships, teacher appreciation, the newspaper club (The Priam)
and the yearbook class. It costs approximately $100 to produce each yearbook and we were able to offer each
book for $65 during the first six weeks of school. Many families took advantage of this deal.
Spirit Wear
The holidays will be here before you know it! If you are interested in purchasing Trojan Spirit Wear, the
information is attached. The items are in stock and can be ordered simply by contacting Ms. Mary Jones in our
front office.
Students playing on sports teams will also have a chance to purchase specific items through their team Under
Armour store. This information has been coming directly from the winter coach to the student/parent.
CONTINUING REMINDERS
Internship and Work Co-op Students
On delayed openings, our school schedule is altered. Please help to support KCHS in reminding your student that
they must finish their school day before leaving for work. This is written into the contract signed by the parent,
student, and employer. Further questions can be directed to Mr. Buckel who leads the work based learning
program at 410-778-7152. Attached is a bell schedule to help facilitate this request. Thank you.
HBCU (Historical Black Colleges and Universities) Tour 2016!
Join one of the most affordable Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) tour in the Maryland area,
sponsored by Maryland Educators. This educational tour will provide your child with valuable information about
college life on campus, academic requirements, admission criteria, and matching institutions of higher learning
with student career goals. Last year, senior students met directly with admission advisors and some were accepted
on the spot.
The upcoming College Tour is scheduled March 28, 2016 through April 1, 2016 and is open to grades 9-12. There
is a fee. See Attached Flyer.
