Professional Summary
Rick Jackson together with two additional founder members started Afriscan (Pty) Ltd, a civil engineering construction company, in 1988, 21 years ago.
He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Afriscan Holdings (Pty) Ltd in 2003 and negotiated the acquisition of three construction companies, namely Deroma Structures,
Bentham Asphalt and Rusinga Building under the financial control of a newly formed –
Sanyati Holdings (Pty) Ltd which already owned Afriscan Construction (Pty) Ltd.
Recognizing the opportunity that existed for commercial property development, Rick founded
Sanprop (Pty) Ltd during 2003, his intention being to develop industrial, commercial and residential properties. This company has subsequently been incorporated into the Sanyati
Holdings group of companies.
In June 2006, under his leadership, Sanyati Holdings Limited, which consisted of five construction related entities, was listed on the AltX sector of the JSE. The company obtained its ISO 9001 Quality Control Certificate in December 2006.
Since listing on the JSE, Sanyati Holdings Limited has obtained a BEE Empowerdex rating of
65.8%, the highest rating of all listed construction companies.
Under the Sanyati Holdings Limited banner, between December 2006 and December 2007, the company acquired four additional South African construction companies, namely, Mega
Pile in KZN, a geotechnical and civil engineering contractor specializing in piling, Ruthcon in
Gauteng and Gem Earthworks operating in Mpumalanga Province and the Eastern Cape. The most recent acquisition is the Free State based rival company, Meyker Group.

Sanyati Holdings was listed on the JSE Main Board in July 2008 with a turnover of R1.8 billion.
The Group has budgeted a turnover of R2.7 billion for this current year ending 2010 of trading recording their 20 th year of profitability since inception and spanning all nine provinces, and employs some 4 600 people in the organization.
Professional Membership
In the past, Rick served as director of the Pinetown branch of Business Against Crime and also became an associate member of the Association of Arbitrators and is currently a member of the Institute of Directors in Southern Africa, as well as a member of the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Entrepreneural Achievements
In his personal capacity, Rick has funded and inspired many other enterprises in diverse industries, including, boat building, hardware, timber farming, electrical contracting, aeroplane charter, kitchen cupboard manufacture and installation and a Private Safari Lodge.
He has also lectured to students at the Varsity College in KZN on the subject of
Entrepreneurship.
Rick is a director of several privately owned companies and serves as a trustee in several
Trust Funds and Body Corporates.
He holds and manages a significant property portfolio comprising of industrial, commercial, farm and residential property in three provinces as well as offshore.
Awards
For five years running, from 1995 until 1999, under Rick’s leadership Afriscan (Pty) Ltd became one of the Business Day non-listed company finalists.
Rick was also a finalist in the British Airways / Mercury Business Excellence Award in 1996.
He was nominated as one of five best entrepreneur finalists in the Ernst and Young World
Entrepreneur Awards, held in Gauteng in 2008.
In June 2008, Rick was awarded The Knights Circle of Valour Award for business excellence aimed to profile and recognize the success of many Northlands, Beachwood and Northwood
Old boys for their achievements at the highest level since leaving school.
Sanyati Holdings was nominated as one of South Africa’s Top 300 Performing Companies as a result of its sustained excellence in corporate affairs.

Social Responsibility
As CEO of Sanyati Holdings Limited, Rick has implemented many social responsibility programmes within the Group including Enviroscan, a fund set up to undertake environmentally sensitive projects throughout KZN. Sanyati Holdings has been involved in a number of community service projects, including, the construction of rural classrooms and a crèche in KZN.
Education
In 1979, Rick qualified with a Diploma in Civil Engineering at Natal Technikon whilst he was employed with the eThekwini Council.
In 1984, he joined a Civil Engineering Contracting Company Asphalt Construction to gain valuable experience in his chosen career. During his time of employment, studying part time, he completed his Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology and obtained his PR (Tech)
Engineer title.
Rick studied part time to complete a two year Advanced Business Programme at Technikon
Natal in 1991 and in 1993 completed a Construction Management Programme at Stellenbosch
University.
Personal Summary
Rick is married to Tracy. Together they have five children, two daughters, 16 and 14 from his previous marriage and two sons, 18 and 12 and another daughter, 8, from her previous marriage. Rick has custody of his girls and has raised them for the last 10 years.
He is a member of the Kloof Country Club but is a self-confessed “poor golfer” as a result of his commitment to his family and his career.
He has a passion for formula one racing and owns a collection of cars which include a 2007 model Aston Martin.
