BIO Report – September 21, 2010 Progress 1) We did run un-SWAN (40.81) for unstructured grid in serial mode, but not in parallel. 2) We also ran un-SWAN in parallel for structured lat /long grid. 3) We need to understand how to make parallel-run simulations with available computer resources using unstructured grid SWAN, to compare with structured SWAN runs. Next Steps 1) Run the parallel version of unstructured SWAN. 2) Do tests on tropical and extra-tropical grids for storm runs. Challenges 1) To run parallel un-SWAN need fort.15. We found fort.14. These are ADCIRC input files containing: a. Grid and boundary information files b. Model parameters 2) To compile parallel un-SWAN we need some missing modules: global.f, messenger.f, sizes.f, which are ADCIRC files. They are found in an ADCIRC directory. 3) Where is the extratropical grid in ADCIRC format? Where are the appropriate fort.14, fort.15, for the extratropical domain? 4) We eventually did get parallel un-swan executable and tried to use with the tropical grid, viz. GM_LA_v2d_chk.grd. Failed to find “prefix directory”. 5) Where are PE000 files that decompose the grid domain? 6) How does parallel un-SWAN get its INPUT? Where is the command file, which allows set-up of grid, selection of physics, of output points, etc.? 7) Still need collaborative agreement between the Government of Canada and UNC that would allow funding for this work at BIO. Question Does parallel mode un-SWAN run in stand-alone mode, without ADCIRC, viz. without running SWAN-ADCIRC in coupled model mode?
