Associate Professor Camile S Farah BDSc, MDSc (OralMed OralPath), PhD, GCEd (HE), FRACDS (OralMed), FIAOO, FICD, FPFA Specialist in Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology, Private Practice Head, Oral Oncology Research Program, UQ Centre for Clinical Research Oral Medicine Specialist, Head & Neck Cancer Clinic, Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital Consultant Oral Pathologist, Qscan Radiology Clinics Associate Professor Camile S Farah Associate Professor Camile Farah obtained his undergraduate dental degree from the University of Western Australia, and practiced dentistry while completing a PhD in Oral Pathology & Immunology, and his specialist training in diagnostic Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology at the University of Queensland (UQ). He gained further experience in oral diagnostic sciences at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education. Associate Professor Farah is a registered specialist in Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology, and maintains a specialist private practice in Oral Medicine & Clinical Oral Pathology. He also holds a teaching, research and clinical appointment as Associate Professor and Consultant in Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology at the School of Dentistry. Associate Professor Farah has interests in clinical oral medicine (salivary gland diseases, orofacial pain), diagnostic head and neck pathology (oral cancer and precancer), and oral and maxillofacial radiology (Cone Beam CT). He is an Oral Medicine to the Head and Neck Cancer Clinic at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, and is also a Consultant Oral Pathologist to Qscan Radiology Clinics. Associate Professor Farah is an inaugural Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in Oral Medicine, and a Fellow of the International Academy of Oral Oncology, the International College of Dentists, and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Associate Professor Farah is Head of the Oral Oncology Research Program at the UQ Centre for Clinical Research, where he undertakes research into head and neck cancer early detection, diagnosis and imaging. He has collaborations with clinicians and scientists interested in Head & Neck cancer. Associate Professor Farah has published over 75 clinical and scientific articles including 5 book chapters, and has presented many continuing education courses nationally and internationally. He has attracted approximately $5 million in competitive research funding from the National Health & Medical Research Council of Australia, Cancer Australia, Cancer Council, the Australian Learning & Teaching Council, the Australian Dental Research Foundation, the RBWH Foundation, the Dental Board of Queensland, and the Queensland Government, amongst other sources. His group has collaborations with Agilent Technologies, Life Technologies, Olympus Australia, Colgate-Palmolive Australia, LED Dental, Star Dental, and the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health. 1 Associate Professor Farah is the Chairman of the Research Advisory Committee of the Australian Dental Research Foundation, and Vice President and President-elect of the ANZ Division of the International Association for Dental Research. He is also the inaugural President of the Oral Medicine Academy of Australasia, and Vice President of the Australasian Immunohistochemistry Society. He is a member of the Oral Medicine Board of Studies of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, the Australian and New Zealand Head & Neck Cancer Society, the European Association of Oral Medicine, and the International Association of Oral Pathologists. He serves on grant review panels for NHMRC, Cancer Australia, Cancer UK, Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, and ADRF. He is an adhoc reviewer for many peer-reviewed international journals including Oral Oncology, Head & Neck, BMC Cancer, and Australian Dental Journal and is also a member of the editorial board of Case Reports in Dentistry. 2
