Print Transfer Techniques on Clay
Instructor: Kathy King
Monday and Wednesday mornings, 9:30 am –12:30 pm
Students will learn a variety of print transfer techniques on clay as a means
of personal expression. Course experiences will include mono-printing,
screening, stenciling, creating water-slide decals, embossing and relief
printing onto plaster and clay. Historical and contemporary examples of these
techniques will provide inspiration.
Collaborative Tiles and Murals
Instructor: Wasma’a
Chorbachi
Saturdays, 10 am – 1 pm, January 2, 9, 16, 23
Participate in the collaborative design and construction of a tile mural, and
learn strategies for planning, creating, and installing tile murals in
schools, community centers, or residences. Considerations include: site
evaluation, permission/contract negotiations, developing themes and subject
matter that allow for collaborative expression and inspiration, assessment of
material and equipment requirements for fabrication, installation, and
mounting.
Moldmaking/Slip Casting in Four Easy Lessons
Instructor: Forrest Snyder
Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:30 – 9:30 pm January 12, 14, 19, 21
Using clay, plaster, and found objects, we’ll make molds and slip cast
prototypes, multiples, and/or unique curiosities. We’ll go fast and get dirty
and learn all about that gruesome word “undercut.”
Techniques explored have wide applications for making molds and casting in
other materials.
Ceremonial Gifts and Commemorative Vessels
Tuesday, January 19, 11 am – 1 pm, 2 – 5 pm
Instructor: Miranda
Thomas
This workshop will include a demonstration, hands-on lettering class, and
presentation on Miranda Thomas’s ceremonial and commemorative work for public
and private events and clients, including the United Nations and the White
House.
Marketing by Yourself in the Digital Age
Instructor: Kristen
Kieffer
Wednesday, January 13, 6 – 9 pm
Direct marketing is essential for survival as an independent studio potter.
Learn how Kristin Kieffer effectively uses her website, her blog, Facebook,
and Etsy to publicize work, connect with fans, and sell online.
Photographing Work
Instructor: Christopher Adams
Thursday, January 14, 6 – 9 pm
Christopher Adams is a master of photographing ceramic vessels and sculpture.
This workshop will include an introductory overview of photography basics and
lighting/photography demonstrations with work from three representative
workshop participants. Objects have an intimate and powerful presence in his
photographs because his careful coordination of focal length and aperture
provides a good depth of field for close-range shots and because his effective
use of shadow provides dramatic three-dimensional information.
