Conservative Sharp Wound Debridement (CSWD) is an advanced clinical skill for health
practitioners involved in wound management. This workshop will provide health
practitioners with the necessary grounding in the procedure and techniques of
Conservative Sharp Wound Debridement.
The session will cover:
Indications for CSWD; Benefits and risks; Precautions and contra-indications; Equipment
required; Techniques for performing the procedure; Hands-on workshop undertaking basic
CSWD techniques
This session will not confirm clinical competency in CSWD but will provide a sound
understanding of the procedure to safely pursue development and attainment of skills and
competence in practice. Participants must have a sound understanding of basic wound
healing and wound management principles and work in clinical settings where CSWD
would enhance their practice.

Challenges and Opportunities in Maintaining Skin Integrity in Ostomy Management
Peristomal skin integrity is the cornerstone of stoma care. Yet, the prevalence of peristomal skin complications is high, leading to clinical
challenges and impacting patients’ post-surgery adjustment and quality of life. This symposium will present the scope of peristomal skin issues
amongst ostomates and discuss the importance and clinical impact of using a standardised tool to assess skin. It will also review clinical strategies
to optimise peristomal skin integrity, including recent findings from a multi-centre observational study.
