Bio for MSDHoF for John Waldman
-Began swimming career at the Bath YMCA in 1971 and finished his Y career with the
Boothbay Y in 1980 where he was a YMCA New England Champion in the 100
Breaststroke. In 1978, he set the Maine Y state record in the 100 breaststroke earning a
YMCA Nationals Qualification time.
-In 1980 while a student at Hebron Academy, he set a school record and was a New
England Prep School Champion and All American in the 100 Breaststroke
-attended University of Pittsburgh from 1980-81 where he was the Eastern Interscholastic
Collegiate Champion for 1981
-He transferred to Indiana University in 1981 graduating in 1985. While there he was
Indiana State Swimmer of the Year USS - 1983, 1984 and 1985.
-He was the Big Ten Champion - 1983, 84, 100 & 200 Breaststroke, 200 Medley Relay

-Qualified for NCAA I championships in 1983, 84, and 85
-Ranked 11th in the world in the 100 breaststroke by ASCA in 1983
-earned NCAA I All American status in 1984 in the 100 Breaststroke
-qualified for the 1984 Olympic trials 100 & 200 Breaststroke finishing 9th and 18th.
-He was ranked 11th in the world in the 100 breaststroke by ASCA in 1983 and was an
Eight time US Senior Nationals Finalist and an USS All American in 1984
-Was the 1984 Canadian Cup Champion in the 100 breaststroke
-In 1987 as a masters swimmer, he set the SCM world record in the 100 breaststroke with
a time that stood for 17 years and was a five time US Masters American Record Holder
-in 1987 founded Fluid Mechanics
