Herd Information:
Miles and Gail Fursdon have been farming on Dartmoor for over thirty years,
but have recently started breeding ponies after a long break. With the help of their Son Luke, and
Daughter-in-law Hannah, who is a qualified horse behaviourist and trainer, they recently bought a
small herd of mares to breed with their pedigree Dartmoor Stallion to produce quality hardy
Dartmoor foals with easy characters. The aim was to produce a selection of ponies, heritage
approved and pedigree of all ages and up to 12.2hh to give
clients a wide range of choice when it came to buying a pony
for family/pony club/showing or driving. The prefix Blackator
comes from the closest Tor to our farm.
All the ponies are handled by Hannah using natural
horsemanship methods similar to the handling done by the
DPHT throughout the various stages of handling.
We are very willing to offer can offer advice to new owners
to ensure that they get the best out of their ponies.
Merribridge Groomsman, our gorgeous stallion has recently been named by the Dartmoor Pony
Society as one of the select few working pedigree stallions with a direct link to Hele Romeo. “All the
male lines actually trace to three stallions....it is now up to breeders to do everything they can to save
these lines” Hele Romeo was one of these three stallions. (Quote from Dartmoor Diary 2010 page
58)
Pony 7
Name:
Blackator Ashley
Born:
June 2009.
Description:
Ashley is by Shilstone Rocks Star fighter,
out of a DPHT Mare. He was weaned at six months old,
handled then turned out to mature after castration. He
has been growing well (to make 12hh) and now looking
very smart. This pony has a very sweet character, quiet
and friendly. Once this little pony gets to know you he will exceed expectations, a very quick learner.
The first pony to come to you in the field especially if you have a feed bucket! Would make great
lead rein/pony club/driving pony with correct handling and bringing on we also have his brother for
sale who is almost identical and by the same stallion.
Price:
£375
Pony 8
Name
Blackator Belle
Born:
August 2010
Description:
Belle will make around 11.2hh, this filly
is by our own stallion Merribridge Groomsman out of a
(very good-looking!) DPHT mare.
She has had basic handling, has been wormed and holds
a Dartmoor Pony Heritage Approved passport. She is
certainly learning quickly but hasn’t had a great amount
of handling due to her age but don’t let this put you off as she will make a fantastic pony. Very
honest and friendly, would suit an experienced home to bring her on to full potential.
She will be a fantastic pony for anyone interested in showing, pony club or breeding.

Herd Information
The Shilstone Rocks herd has been established for 50 odd years and started with two inspected
mares off Dartmoor. Ponies from this stud have been the foundation of many well known studs of
today and our ponies have been exported all over the world to start up new studs and provide
ponies for children and driving. Our ponies have excelled in the show ring. Over the years eighteen
Shilstone Rocks ponies have qualified for Horse of the Year show and several for Olympia and they
have been highly placed in both these prestigious events. However our Dartmoors are not just show
animals. We have ten working in our riding centre at the moment and the infoal mares live on the
moor all winter. (We cannot put out the fillies and mares who are not in foal as there are so many
stallions running on the moor and we do not want to breed unwanted foals).
