We will hold the drawing for the prizes as soon as all money is collected. In the final duel meet of the season the cross country team raced against Crown Point Taft last night. Times continued to drop as the Vikings mastered their hilly home course. PRs were achieved by 6th graders Burrow-Flak, Clark, Hardwick, Hurst, Lyons, Ozdyck, Paulsen, Ryan Burns, Douglas, Farmer, Ferngren, Gilliana, Hoffman, Huber, Jain, Molnar, Pendleton, and Tsagris. The 6th grade girls continued their winning streak by beating Taft by 28 points. 7th graders who beat their times included Corkwell, Linn, Stazinski, Villarreal, Majka, Taylor, and Abby Steele. The 8th graders had a great night with the girls winning by 27 points and the boys winning by 29 points. Best times were also earned by Brandt, Corneil, Goldfarb, Hargett, Harrington, Huber, Karunaratne, Mockus, Schuiteman, Sorrick, Tyrka, Wanek, Dalton, Doelling, Kipp, Lease, Mitchell, Stock, Trebil, and Warner. A congratulations also goes out to Elena Kipp for beating her own course record by 4 seconds and running 3000 meters in 12:05. The “B” Football team ran its unbeaten record to 6-0-1 with a thrilling 22-14 victory over Chesterton last night in the prelude to Movie Night. Kevin Jackson opened the scoring with a 10 yard burst into the end zone to open the 2nd quarter and then connected with Jackson Kurth on a 70 yard touchdown pass that staked the Vikings to a 14-6 halftime lead. Chesterton came back strong to tie the game up at 14 and then Kevin Jackson broke free on a broken play scramble, breaking several tackles en route to a 70 yard touchdown run to give the Vikings the lead for good. After holding the Trojans on 4th down the Viking were able to run out the clock behind several strong runs from Jackson Kurth to seal the victory. Overall, Kevin Jackson led the way with 142 yards rushing and two touchdowns, while Jackson Kurth ran for 65 yards rushing, 45 of which came on the final drive to run out the clock. Ayden Bennett had a fumble recovery and Mike Jovanovic intercepted a pass leading the defense while Treston Winkel played a great game at linebacker making 7 tackles to lead the Vikings. The Offensive line of Jack VanBenthuysen, Jarred Craft, John Mudd, Ayden Bennett, and Treston Winkel opened holes and plowed the way to the Vikings amassing 209 on the ground. Football practice will end at 4 today. Again, practice will end at 4:00. The next B game will be game two of a night doubleheader in Crown Point against Taft next Tuesday night. The 8th grade team took on the pirates from Merrillville last night in Boucher. Both teams picked up the win in two games. A’s top servers were Walls and Terwilliger. Top hitters were Brown and Walls. Top passers were Seifert, Alburo, Silhavy, Petro, and Gall. The B’s top servers were Lustina, Silhavy, and Lozano. Hitting was controlled by Lustina, MacDonald, DeVries, and Nondorf. Top defense went to Thomas, Mueller, and Lozano. Another great win ladies! A special thanks goes out to those that came out to support the Vikes last night! Tomorrow the ‘B’ team will participate in the BF Tournament at 9:00am. Best of luck and come out to cheer on your Vikes in the AM! Also 8th grade’s practice today will be from 34. Last night our gymnastics team competed against Merrillville. Our girls fought hard but were not able to overcome a strong Merrillville team. Our Level 3 team was barely defeated with a .4 deficit - 109.4 to 109.0. Our Optional 2 team lost 90.8 to 83.15. And our Optional 1 team lost 103.85 to 99.5. Individual place winners were: Level 3 - Jordan Coplan, Isabel Gordon, and Emmi Owens Optional 2 - Ava Clapp, Ashlee Martin, Samantha Riley, and Mimi Wong and Optional 1 - Brittney Clark Next week come watch our gymnasts take on Crown Point on Wednesday in the VHS field house. The 7th grade volleyball teams traveled to Merrillville last night and came home with 2 straight wins each. The matches were pretty easy as our girls dominated with their serves, passes, and hits. Our Vikes then celebrated their victories at Simon Sez as they ate hotdogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers, gyros, and feta cheese. The night even got better when the owner gave all of the girls free milk shakes. Good job girls! Our “B” team will play tomorrow at BF starting at 9am. Come support our Vikings!
