Position #9130.100 Student Status Examiner Associate Department of Enrollment Services 14. POSITION SUMMARY One of the goals of this position is to evaluate undergraduate application files for all types of undergraduate applicants. The person also serves as a backup residency specialist, determining residency status for tuition purposes on graduate and undergraduate applications. The person also provides information and educational alternatives to prospective students. The work in this position is performed under general supervision in the application processing area of the Department of Enrollment Services. The application specialist staff, of which this position is part, consists of five student status examiners. Mastery of the goals in this position leads to the full realm of student status examiner duties, including complex and problem cases, and advancement to a higher level examiner status. GOALS AND WORKER ACTIVITIES 45% A. Determination of admissibility of undergraduate applicants. A1. Examine, evaluate, and determine admissibility of new freshman, transfer, continuing, reentry and high school special applicants, referring complex and questionable cases to more experienced colleagues. A2. Consult with the academic dean/representative of the schools/colleges concerning borderline applicants and admission appeals. 25% B. Evaluation of college credits presented in transfer to UWM. B1. Evaluate course work taken at other colleges and universities and equate to courses offered at UWM. B2. Consult with department chairpersons, when necessary, for clarification of transfer course equivalencies. 10% C. Counsel to applicants/Customer Service C1. Confer with applicants and their parents concerning admission decisions. C2. Recommend educational options and/or alternatives when appropriate. C3. Provide high-quality customer service to students, the University community, and DES co-workers at all times, including in-person, telephone or email communications. Maintain a positive, professional demeanor while serving customers in the office. Recognize that all students, potential and current students, parents, high school personnel, University staff and DES co-workers are all “customers” to be served. 10% D. Determination of residency for tuition purposes. D1. Serve as backup specialist for residency determination, determining residency for tuition purposes for graduate and undergraduate applicants, referring complex and problem cases to more experienced specialists when necessary. D2. Respond to telephone and in-person inquiries concerning residency for tuition purposes. 10% E. Performance of miscellaneous duties E1.
